Fuel-efficient cars with alternative powertrains are becoming a trend today. Kia offers an impressive lineup of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) cars in the market. These vehicles have the perk of an enhanced level of output power. This technology allows you to use more electricity and less petrol, meaning that you will enjoy optimum fuel economy while lowering your carbon footprint. With a PHEV, you do not need a charging station. A simple 120-volt outlet will do the job.

The 2022 Kia Niro and Kia Sportage are great hybrid models. However, the 2022 Kia Niro PHEV has three advantages over the Kia Sportage PHEV.

1. Get value for your money with an affordable PHEV

The Kia Niro and Kia Sportage are compared often. However, the primary advantage of the Niro is its affordable price. If you are in the market and looking for a low-priced option in the hybrid segment, the 2022 Kia Niro fits the budget. You will get more for your money with more interior space and cargo capacity features.

According to Kia Media, the Niro PHEV goes for approximately $29,590, which is cheaper than the Sportage’s $38,490 MSRP.

2. Kia Niro PHEV has superior fuel economy

Another area the Kia Niro PHEV outshines the Kia Sportage is fuel economy. The Niro is powered by a 1.6-liter engine using a gasoline direct injection fuel delivery system. With its 43-liter fuel tank, you are guaranteed longer drives with fewer stops at the gas station. In contrast, the Sportage has a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine, which is not the best option in terms of fuel consumption.

Edmunds cites the Kia Niro as having a combined fuel economy of 46 mpg, while the Kia Sportage has an average of 23 mpg combined. This is one of the best things about Niro since it can give you up to 52 mpg in the city and 49 miles per gallon on the highway. On the other hand, Kia Sportage only has an average of 28 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg in the city.

The excellent fuel economy is attributed to its plug-in hybrid capabilities. In addition to the hybrid system, the Kia Niro also has a regenerative braking system that allows you to harness kinetic energy to recharge your battery when you brake.

3. Active driver assistance through an intuitive infotainment system

The Kia Niro has several vital high-technology features that optimize usability, convenience, and safety for front-seat passengers and the driver. The vehicle has the advantage of a highly intuitive interior layout allowing the driver to access key controls easily. Its 10.5-inch screen display offers a stunning view in pin-sharp clarity.

The screen can communicate important data such as real-time speed and any obstacle in the driver’s path. Also, this allows the front seat occupants to access the audio easily with minimal distraction.

While both are great options for someone looking for a plug-in hybrid SUV, there are three definitive advantages the Niro has over the Sportage.
