3 Advantages the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge Has Over the Jaguar I-Pace
With so many incredible EVs on the market these days, consumers might find it challenging to decide which to buy. One model that often gets overshadowed, and doesn’t deserve to, is the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge. It’s a worthy contender with lots of bragging rights, especially in comfort, convenience, safety, and technology.
So, how does this luxury EV SUV compare to others in the segment? When comparing it to the luxury performing Jaguar I-Pace, how does the Volvo C40 Recharge rank? In some key areas and amenity categories, the Volvo C40 Recharge is a far better option. Here are three reasons to consider buying it over the Jaguar I-Pace.
1. The Volvo C40 Recharge has a better bottom-line price
One of the first considerations for most consumers buying a new EV is price and value. It’s also the first reason to consider the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge over the Jaguar I-Pace. Consumer Reports points out that the C40 Recharge starts at $58,750 before applying the available tax credits. The Consumer Reports team suggests the base MSRP for the 2022 I-Pace is $69,900 before the tax credits.
With the Jaguar I-Pace, you’ll only have the HSE trim available. With the Volvo C40 Recharge, you’ll only have the luxury Ultimate trim, making these price points very apple-to-apple. Each offers a few optional packages, but you can expect luxury touch points and plenty of in-cabin tech. Both models bring a host of impressive safety equipment and driver aids.
2. More standard horsepower with the C40 Recharge
Today’s EVs are proving to be quick off the line and quite capable in terms of horsepower. The 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge wins in this head-to-head comparison with the 2022 Jaguar I-Pace, too. Car and Driver points out that the C40 Recharge harnesses 402 horses, which is impressive for an electric vehicle. Comparatively, the I-Pace’s two electric motors produce 394 horsepower.
Both luxury EVs are powerful and punchy. Jaguar shares that the I-Pace’s 512 lb-ft is “instant torque for a more sports car agility.” The C40 Recharge offers 486 lb-ft of torque. In the end, if horsepower matters to you, and a 0 to 60 sprint in a quick 4.7 seconds, the C40 Recharge is the better buy.
3. A better fuel economy equivalent with the Volvo C40 Recharge
The Volvo team clearly paid attention to the details that matter most to EV-buying consumers. The third reason to choose the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge over the 2022 Jaguar I-Pace is fuel efficiency. The C40 Recharge gets a better combined MPGe rating with an EPA estimated 87 MPGe, as shared by Edmunds. Meanwhile, the I-Pace earns less with 76 combined MPGe.
When reviewing the available ranges and times to charge, the I-Pace and the C40 Recharge are comparable. The I-Pace can go 234 miles on the 90-kWh battery. It will take a little more than 10 hours to charge with the 220V charging. Meanwhile, the C40 Recharge can go roughly 226 miles on a full charge. With a 240V charging connection, it will charge in about 8 hours.
There are plenty of luxury performers in the EV SUV segment. Still, before you decide to buy, don’t overlook the 2022 Volvo C40 Recharge. It’s a better value proposition than many others in the running for many reasons. If you’ve narrowed down your considerations to include the 2022 Jaguar I-Pace, the C40 Recharge is the savvier buy, at least for these three reasons.
