Out of the many SUVs on the market, the 2023 Chevy Blazer are in a different category of SUV that separates them from the rest. The Blazer is in the premium SUV segment, and these SUVs are not true luxury SUVs, but they tend to be more expensive and offer more features than an average SUV will. Another option in this segment is the 2023 Nissan Murano. Here’s a look at three advantages the 2023 Chevy Blazer has over it.

1. The Blazer has a much better fuel economy than the Nissan Murano

Chevy offers two engine options on the Blazer, while Nissan only offers one engine on the Murano. Chevy’s engine options have a good fuel economy, but the standard engine gets a much better fuel economy overall. According to Edmunds, the Blazer starts with a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 engine, and it’s paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive as standard.

This allows the Chevy to get about 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on highways, for 25 mpg combined. In comparison, Nissan gave the Murano a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. The Murano gets 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on highways, for 23 mpg combined, thanks to this setup. That’s a slight difference on highways and a more considerable difference in the city, which can pay dividends when gas prices are high.

2. The engines that Chevy gave the Blazer gets more torque

The Blazer’s other engine is a 3.6-liter V6, and it’s still paired to a nine-speed automatic with front-wheel drive as standard. This setup gets a slightly worse fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on highways, for 22 mpg combined. Unsurprisingly, this engine option is powerful, as it gets 308 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque.

That is more power and torque than what the Nissan SUV can get. The Murano’s V6 engine gets 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. That’s a difference of almost 50 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque. That said, Chevy customers don’t even need to choose this engine option to get more torque than the Murano. Even the standard Blazer, when equipped with its standard 2.0-liter engine, gets a higher torque output than the Murano’s V6.

The Blazer’s standard 2.0-liter engine gets 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. That is less horsepower than what the Murano receives, but it’s 18 lb-ft more torque than what the Nissan SUV gets. As a result, the Blazer has a faster acceleration time than the Murano. The Blazer only needs 6.4 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph with the V6 engine, while the Murano needs about 7.7 seconds.

3. The 2023 Chevy Blazer also has more ground clearance

While both SUVs are not meant to go off-road, both can be equipped with all-wheel drive, and this should make any off-road excursions more tolerable. However, folks who take their SUV off-road will probably have a better time with the Chevy than if they had bought the Nissan instead. This is because there’s a sizeable difference between the two regarding their ground clearance.

As Edmunds wrote, the Blazer has a ground clearance of about 7.5 inches. In comparison, the Murano has a ground clearance of about 6.9 inches. That difference is about 0.6 inches, which may be a big enough difference for some off-road obstacles.
