The Kia Niro recently underwent a massive redesign for the 2023 model year. So, how does the redesigned Niro EV compare with its brand-new all-electric sibling, the Kia EV6? Interestingly, the 2023 Kia Niro EV has several advantages over the EV6. Read on to learn why you might consider the Niro EV over the EV6 when shopping for a fully electric crossover SUV.

1. The 2023 Kia Niro EV beats the 2023 Kia EV6 in pricing

The 2023 Kia Niro EV Wind has a base sticker price of $39,450. If you opt for the pricier Niro EV Wave, expect a starting MSRP of $44,450. Add-ons such as the Wind or Wave Preserve packages, which include a heat pump and rear heated seats, will run you an additional $1,300, per Kia.

Meanwhile, the Kia EV6 is a significantly pricier model. With an MSRP of $48,500 for the base-model Wind with rear-wheel drive, the EV6 starts at nearly $10,000 more than the Niro. Opting for the EV6 GT-Line Wind with rear-wheel drive bumps the price to $52,700. Meanwhile, the range-topping AWD EV6 GT costs $61,400 to start. (You can also opt for an AWD EV6 GT-Line, which runs $57,400.)

Given those price points, it’s clear that if your wallet is driving your decision-making, the 2023 Kia Niro EV will be a more attractive option than the 2023 Kia EV6.

2. The Niro EV harnesses more standard horsepower than the EV6

Horsepower is often a consideration for shoppers interested in purchasing an SUV, and that’s true whether the SUV in question is an EV. And in this category, the 2023 Kia Niro EV tops the EV6.

The Niro EV packs a motor producing 201 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque and a 64.8-kWh battery providing up to 253 miles of range. On the other hand, the EV6 isn’t quite as powerful. According to Car and Driver, the base RWD model makes only 167 hp, but opting for a larger battery boosts that figure to 225 hp.

Also, the AWD EV6 comes with a larger battery pack and generates 320 hp or 576 hp. But when comparing the most affordable trims, you’ll see the Niro EV excels in standard horsepower.

3. The 2023 Kia Niro boasts more cargo space than the 2023 Kia EV6

One of the main reasons why people gravitate toward SUVs is their ability to haul larger loads than a sedan. That’s why cargo space is an important consideration when weighing your options.

And the Niro EV tops the EV6 in cargo capacity. The former offers an impressive 63.7 cubic feet total and plenty of storage space for small items. Conversely, the EV6 provides only 50.2 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded down. C/D notes the EV6 has additional storage space in the frunk, but “it’s not as big as expected.”

The redesigned 2023 Kia Niro EV has a lot to offer shoppers looking for an electric SUV at a relatively affordable price. Potent motors and ample cargo room make it an attractive choice.
