One of the many types of SUVs that car shoppers can choose from right now are premium SUVs, and SUVs in this category tend to be more expensive than normal SUVs, though they’re cheaper than true luxury SUVs. The 2023 Nissan Murano is a premium SUV, and it has some strong competition from the likes of the Buick Envision. Here’s a look at three advantages that the 2023 Nissan Murano has over the Buick Envision.

1. The 2023 Nissan Murano has more power than the Buick Envision does

While the two premium SUVs differ in many ways, one area where they have a lot of similarities is their engines. Both Nissan and Buick only offers one engine option on their SUVs, but there’s a difference in terms of their size and power. According to Edmunds, Nissan gave the Murano a 3.5-liter V6 engine as standard. Buick, meanwhile, gave the Envision a 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 engine as standard.

The Murano’s V6 gets 260 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque, and that is more power than what the Envision gets. The Envision’s 2.0-liter engine gets 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This means that the Nissan has about 32 hp more than the Buick does. That said, the Envision has slightly more torque, as it gets about 18 lb-ft more torque than the Murano gets.

And, since the Buick’s engine is smaller and weaker, it’ll be more fuel efficient. It gets about 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on highways, for 26 mpg combined.

The Murano, meanwhile, gets 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on highways, for 23 mpg combined. However, Nissan gave the Murano a 19-gallon gas tank, while Buick gave the Envision a 15.9-gallon one. This means that the Nissan should have a longer range overall.

2. Owners will be able to take advantage of the 2023 Nissan Murano’s good cargo capacity

Another advantage that Nissan customers can get comes in the form of cargo capacity. The Murano simply has much more cargo capacity than the Envision does, and it doesn’t matter if the seats are folded down or not, the Murano will still have more. Without folding any seats down, the Envision gets 25.2 cu. ft. of cargo capacity.

In comparison, the Murano, without its seats folded down, has 32.1 cu. ft. of cargo capacity. That’s a difference of 6.9 cu. ft., and it’s a big enough difference for families to feel. With the rear seats folded down, the Buick SUV tops out with a max cargo capacity of 52.7 cu. ft. In comparison, the Nissan tops out with 67 cu. ft. of max cargo capacity. That’s a difference of 14.3 cu. ft., which is like having an additional trunk’s worth of cargo capacity.

3. The 2023 Nissan Murano also has more ground clearance

Both premium SUVs can be equipped with all-wheel drive, and this can make them decent options if drivers want to take the SUVs off-road. One of the most important specs to look at when it comes to off-road capabilities, however, is ground clearance. Neither premium SUVs were designed specifically to go off-road, but despite that, the Murano still has more ground clearance than the Envision does. 

According to Autoblog, the Envision has about 6.7 inches of ground clearance. In comparison, Nissan gave the Murano 6.9 inches of ground clearance, which means that the Nissan SUV has about 0.2 inches of ground clearance more than the Buick does. This isn’t a huge difference, but it may still matter in some off-road situations.
