The market for electric SUVs is heating up quickly. Tesla is no longer the only brand that is exploring the world of EVs, giving consumers more choices. But which electric SUV is best? Let’s look at the top three. 

3. 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E

Ford made a brave choice when it decided to make an EV Mustang that is also an SUV. And while to purists, that might seem criminal, the Mustang Mach-E is quite the EV. When properly equipped, this vehicle makes 480 horsepower and 634 pound-foot of torque, but performance is not the only thing the Mach-E does well. 

In terms of range, Ford says the Mustang Mach-E can travel over 300 miles on a single charge. This Ford EV also has clever battery placement, which allows it to maximize passenger and cargo space. It has 60 cubic feet of cargo space with the back seats folded down. 

The 2023 Mustang Mach-E is not necessarily cheap. It does have a starting cost of $46,895, and that is just for the base model. Still, with what this electric Ford SUV brings to the table, it is one of the better EVs out there. 

2. 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV

The 2023 Bolt is not the largest or nicest EV on the market. But where it does excel is its pricing. For less than $30k, you can get a new electric SUV. And it is fairly impressive that General Motors was able to do that. Even with its low price, the new Chevy Bolt does feature standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The range of the Bolt is about 260 miles. And that should be enough for daily use. Car and Driver notes that you can get it with DC fast charging as well. Perhaps where Chevy’s EV falls short is the lack of all-wheel drive. For a lot of SUV buyers, AWD is a key feature. And you cannot get it on the 2023 Bolt. 

1. 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5

Hyundai and Kia really pulled out all of the stops with this electric SUV. The exterior looks pretty unique when compared to other EVs. And, it’s actually enjoyable to drive. Which gives the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 some enthusiast cred. Even so, Hyundai’s EV does remain practical. Although, it does lack a large frunk, only coming with a little bit of storage space.

If you get an Ioniq 5 with AWD, you can expect around 260 miles of range. Plus, this SUV can tow up to 2,300 lbs when properly equipped. This Hyundai is not the cheapest EV on the market. But for what it comes with, it might be worth the premium. 

Should you buy an EV now or wait?

More and more brands are exploring electrification, so now might be the right time to pick one up. At the same time, supply chain constraints are hitting the EV market hard. So wait times are certainly longer than usual. But don’t expect automakers to shy away from introducing more electric SUVs.
