According to CarEdge, the most recent model years, namely the 2022, 2021, and 2020 Honda Accords are the best used models to consider. The findings are based on value, of which the newest Accord models retain the most. For instance, Car Edge calls the 2022 model the best value due to its abundance of retained value. 

The 2022 Accord still has the vast majority of its original value and nearly 100% of its useful lifespan ahead of it. The 2022 model is just ahead of the 2021 and 2020 models, both of which retain over 90% of their value. Moreover, the 2022 model year’s maintenance costs sit at around $210, while the 2021 and 2020 iterations have an average maintenance cost of about $240 and $289, respectively.  

What is the depreciation rate for a Honda Accord?

Unsurprisingly, depreciation rates vary among model years. CarEdge says the 2021 Honda Accord experienced an average depreciation of around 8.9% of its original cost, from $36,122 to $34,027. Moreover, the 2020 Accord declined by about 14.79%, or $5,033. Still, the 2022 model doesn’t show any depreciation yet, so it has the highest value of all the used models. 

Additionally, CarEdge identified the 2019 and 2017 model years as options with good value ratings. Specifically, the 2019 model has a depreciation figure of around 7.29%, and the 2017 model has a depreciation rate of about 11.74%. Moreover, maintenance costs tend to rise with age, so the 2021 and 2020 models cost more in annual repairs than the newer 2022 Accord. 

What is the lifespan of a Honda Accord?

With proper care and maintenance, a Honda Accord could last between 250,000 and 300,000 miles. According to iSeeCars, the Accord is the 3rd best sedan to consider in terms of potential lifespan. The Honda model has a potential lifespan of around 226,168 miles. 

However, that figure doesn’t reflect the maximum possible mileage that an Accord can cover. Instead, the iSeeCars study takes average odometer readings from 1% of high-mileage examples. The Accord scored just behind the Chevrolet Impala and Toyota Avalon in terms of greatest potential lifespan.  

Which Honda Accord year is the best?

CarEdge says the 2022 Honda Accord is the best model to buy for the money. It has the lowest depreciation rate and maintenance costs of any Accord from the last 12 years. Moreover, the 2022 model year includes four hybrid trims capable of around 47 mpg combined. 

Of course, if you want to save on a used model, the average price of a 2010 or 2011 Honda Accord is $10,686 and $11,994, respectively. Still, the 2023 Honda Accord adopted a much more attractive interior and exterior aesthetic. Further, the later-model Accords add larger infotainment screens and better standard technology, unlike the tenth-gen models.
