Then again, even the sport designation waivers between performance coupes with an abundance of raw horsepower tempered by the latest launch control for optimum zero to 60 mph (and beyond) times and other sport coupes with the ability to carve up a road course with a combination of finesse and power. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette is among the best luxury sport coupes

Ranked at the top of the Luxury Sports Coupe section of Edmunds’ Best Coupes of 2022 and 2023 list is the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette is a mid-engine luxury coupe with plenty of power, refined handling, and enough poise to be a consistent daily driver. All 2022 Corvette models come with a 6.2-liter V8 that delivers 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.

In base trim, the 2022 Corvette accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just over three seconds and covers the quarter mile in under 12 seconds. However, adding the optional Z51 performance package drops both of those times by a few tenths of a second thanks to additional traction from the included electronic limited-slip rear differential. In addition, Edmunds calls the Corvette’s stopping power “excellent though not quite class-leading,” with 109 feet needed to stop from 60 mph. 

The luxury component of any luxury sports coupe equates to a quiet, comfortable cabin equipped with easy-to-use controls. The 2022 Corvette features a quiet cabin free of excessive wind and engine noise, although some road noise comes through on rough surfaces. 

Edmunds recommends opting for the mid-level 2LT trimmed Corvette for the heated and ventilated leather bucket seats, among other perks. You should note that the higher 3LT version features the most comfortable GT2 bucket seats covered in premium leather upholstery. The Corvette possesses the latest infotainment tech and rear cross-traffic alerts, but other driver-assist features like adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking are unavailable. In addition, the climate control buttons “aren’t arranged intuitively.”

The 2022 Porsche 911 landed second place on the list

The 2022 Porsche 911 comes in behind the Corvette on Edmunds’ list of the best luxury sport coupes. A rear-mounted twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six-cylinder engine provides power through a dual-clutch eight-speed automatic or an optional seven-speed manual transmission. Depending on the trim, the 3.0-liter engine produces between 379 and 473 horsepower and rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Edmunds found the 443-hp Porsche 911 Carrera S went from 0 to 60 mph in just over three seconds, similar to a Z51-equipped 3LT Corvette. In addition, the Edmunds test 911 Carrera S, equipped with carbon-ceramic brake pads, stopped from 60 mph in under 100 feet. 

Edmunds recommends the Carrera S for most people seeking a spirited daily driver. The interior is comfortable by sports car standards, but “road noise is more noticeable” than the competition. While the sport suspension lets you “feel every flaw in the road,” the overall ride is compliant. The low point of the 911’s interior is the placement of the touchscreen and infotainment control knob is out of reach for most drivers. The rear seats are “laughably small,” but any back seat is superior to the Corvette’s.

The 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is a luxury sport coupe with 493-horsepower

Third on the list is the 2022 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 with its 493-horsepower mid-mounted 4.0-liter flat-six and dual-clutch eight-speed automatic transmission sprints from 0 to 60 mph in under four seconds and covers the quarter mile in twelve seconds. 

Equipped with optional carbon-ceramic brakes, the Cayman GT4 needs under one hundred feet to stop from 60 mph. While these numbers aren’t the best in the class, the GT4 possesses superior balance and allows it to perform better on the skidpad than any of its competitors.

While the Cayman GT4 is comfortable by sports car standards, engine noise, stiff suspension, and sport-oriented seats combine to make long road trips a painful endeavor. In addition, like the Corvette, the GT4’s climate control buttons and switches are difficult to master. 

Which is the best luxury sport coupe?

If the purchase price is the first box on your checklist, the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette wins without question. With the Corvette’s starting price around $40,000 under either of the Porches, it is the least expensive option by a substantial margin. But, if you want a luxury sport coupe that’ll turn heads wherever you go, leave the competition behind at the light or while merging onto the highway, and inspire confidence at track days, the Corvette is still the best choice. But if you have over $100K to spend on a road-race-ready performance car in street clothing, either of the Porches will do, but the 718 Cayman GT4’s exceptional balance gives it the advantage.
