The Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab is one of the best midsize trucks from 2018

When Edmunds listed some of its favorite midsize trucks, the 2018 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab was an obvious choice. This truck has excellent handling thanks to its independent rear suspension. Honda equipped the Ridgeline’s bed with lockage storage and a two-way tailgate you won’t find anywhere else. For the RT trim, the maximum towing capacity is 3,500 pounds, and the payload maxes out at 1,465 pounds. The top-level trim gets 5,000 pounds towing capacity; the Ridgeline is good enough for most situations.

Some of Edmunds’ favorite safety features include Collision Mitigation Braking and Adaptive Cruise Control, although these are only optional. Noteworthy standard safety features include the Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, which is especially useful when towing or trailering. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2018 Honda Ridgeline a five-star safety rating.

Don’t overlook the reliable Toyota Tacoma Double Cab

The 2018 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab is a good buy if you plan to take your new vehicle off-road. Toyota added clever features like a composite truck bed with moveable tie-down cleats and power outlets. Edmunds says it has a long history of reliability and all the capabilities buyers might need. The Toyota truck was equipped with four-wheel drive, and a V6 can tow 6,800 pounds. Otherwise, the Tacoma gets a 3,500 pounds tow rating and a maximum payload of 1,505 pounds.

The Tacoma comes with Toyota Safety Sense P, adding more standard safety features. Those safety systems include Blind-Spot Monitor, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Toyota’s Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection. The NHTSA gave the 2018 Toyota Tacoma high scores on its crash testing, as did the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

2018 was a good year for the Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab

Buyers of the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab can opt for the gasoline V6 or a diesel four-cylinder engine. Edmunds says the Colorado is a maneuverable side and has confident steering. The cabin controls are easy to use, and a new seven-inch touchscreen is standard. The maximum tow capacity for the Work Truck trim is between 5,000 to 7,000 pounds. The payload is under 1,500 pounds across the board.

Edmunds liked the OnStar System and Teen Driver Mode on the Chevy truck. The Safety Package includes forward collision and lane departure warning systems but is only on the LT trim. Both the NHTSA and IIHS gave the truck a four-star safety rating. That still makes the Colorado one of the best midsize trucks from 2018.
