3 of the Best Trucks That Can Tow 10,000 Pounds
Simply put, full-size trucks are one of the hottest segments here in the United States. And even for folks who rarely tow, having a vehicle that offers legitimate towing capacity can be seen as a necessity. These are three of the best trucks in 2023 that can tow over 10,000 pounds.
What truck can tow more than 10,000 lbs?
Save for the 2023 Nissan Titan, every new full-size truck can tow at least 10,000 lbs. Now, the Titan XD can tow over 11,000 lbs, but the base model caps out at under 10k. Because of that, if you need a pickup that can tow, most half-ton models should be decent enough.
Generally speaking, getting a new truck comes down to personal preference. Some folks swear by Ford, while others wouldn’t trade their Toyota Tundra for anything. Because 2023 models are still fairly new, it can be hard to rate how reliable they will actually be in the real world.
Even with all of the money and resources that manufacturers sink into this segment, there can still be issues. But for the purpose here, we’ll just focus on towing capacities.
3. 2023 GMC Sierra 1500
Sharing much of its mechanical build with the Chevy Silverado 1500, the GMC Sierra feels a little bit higher-end, especially with its top-of-the-line Denali trim. When equipped with the 6.2-liter V8 engine, this full-size truck can tow up to 13,200 lbs. But, you will have to pay extra in order to get the power of eight cylinders.
The V8 does make 420 horsepower and 460 pound-foot of torque. So, making that upgrade might be worth it to some. That is definitely if you are skeptical about a half-ton truck that is not powered by a V8 engine.
2. 2023 Toyota Tundra
The Tundra is not the most popular full-size truck, but it does have a lot to offer. Back when I tested the Toyota Tundra, I was impressed with the comfortable ride and the way the powertrain behaved. This truck might lack a V8, but the base version of the 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 does offer a towing capacity of 12,000 lbs.
It is worth noting that Toyota’s half-ton truck is fresh off of a redesign. So, at this point, it does feel fairly modern. There is also a hybrid version of the V6 available, but it does reduce the maximum towing capacity.
1. 2023 Ford F-150
The Ford F-150 is usually the best-selling vehicle in the United States. And according to Car and Driver, it can tow up to 14,000 lbs. Because of that, it can out-tow the other two pickup trucks featured on this list.
If you want to get the maximum towing capacity, you will need to opt for the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. It makes 500 lb-ft of torque, which helps to make trailering an easier task. With the array of trims and configurations offered by the F-150, there is likely one out there that will work for your lifestyle needs.
