U.S. News has recently released a list of the top ‘Best Used Compact Trucks Under $20K for 2023’. The 2010 Honda Ridgeline came in at No. 2, while the 2009 Nissan Frontier came in at No. 1.

The Ridgeline scored 8.9 out of 10 and has an average price of $9,471- $12,022. Some of U.S. News’ favorite factors included a comfortable ride, the tailgate, which can do cool tricks courtesy of the tailgate wars, and stellar safety scores. However, the interior materials, which are a little lackluster, and the low towing capacity helped to bring the score down.

The 2010 Honda Ridgeline has a V6 3.5L engine that generates 250 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with a five-speed transmission and is 4WD. It has a max towing capacity of 5,000 lbs and a max payload of 1,546 lbs, with a standard bed length of 5 feet.

Like so many trucks, the Ridgeline doesn’t get great gas mileage. In fact, it gets only 15 city mpg and 20 highway mpg. It also doesn’t come with many features modern drivers crave, like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and fancy touchscreens. Despite this, for those in the market for a used truck, the 2010 Ridgeline is a solid choice.

2012 Honda Ridgeline

The 2012 Honda Ridgeline comes in at No. 3, scoring 8.8. The average price paid is $13,724 – $16,934. Some factors that helped it earn such a high score were the ride and handling, rear seats that aren’t cramped, and cargo space. However, like the 2010 model year, it was slammed for its interior.

The 2012 Ridgeline has the same engine as the 2010 model. However, it gets slightly better gas mileage with an EPA rating of 15 city mpg and 21 highway mpg. The max towing capacity and max payload haven’t changed, either.

In fact, the only fundamental changes for the 2012 model year are a redesigned grille and new sport trim.

2014 Honda Ridgeline

The 2014 Honda Ridgeline barely makes it on this list, with an average price of $17,252 – $21,589. Like the 2012 model year, there aren’t many updates for the 2014 Ridgeline. It does come with a special edition trim which wasn’t previously offered, but as for the engine, gas mileage, and specs, it’s all the same.

It comes in at No. 7 and has an overall score of 8.6 from U.S. News. Some factors that the news site enjoyed were the smooth ride, in-bed trunk, and versatile tailgate. Because of this, the Ridgeline would come in first place for U.S. News 2014 Compact Truck of the Year.

However, the transmission was held against the 2014 Ridgeline, as it can be unpredictable in how it shifts, which you should keep in mind while going for a test drive.

The 2010, 2012, and 2014 model years weren’t the only Honda Ridgelines to make it onto U.S. News’ list. In fact, there were three others. The 2009, 2011, and 2013 model years also ranked well, showing just how popular and reliable the Ridgeline really is.
