July was a pivotal month for various car models that began their revival journey. As the blissful summer sun shone, so did the fortune of these vehicles, which experienced a shift in success after long periods of uncertainty. Here are three new cars that started to turn things around in July.

Sales data for new cars for the month of July

GoodCarBadCar recently released its 2023 US vehicle sales figures by model, unveiling the monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales figures of all cars sold in the United States. According to the data, General Motors had a successful Q2, with brands like Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC leading with the most units sold.

A closer look at the July sales reveals that the Ford F-Series leads with the most units sold at 68,536. The Toyota RAV4 sold 37,821 units, while the Honda CR-V followed closely with 33,097 units sold. The Mazda MX-30 and the Hyundai Accent sold the least units, with 28 and 1 units sold, respectively.

Three new cars with positive growth but negative year-to-date growth

According to GoodCarBadCar, Toyota 4Runner sold 11,206 units in July 2023. This was a 45.87% positive change compared to July 2022, when the company only sold 7,682 units of the vehicle. This surge in sales shows that the 4Runner gained significant traction and appeal in 2023.

However, when analyzing the year-to-date sales figures for the model, a different trend emerges. The 4Runner sold 52,655 units from January 1st to July 31st. In contrast, during the same period in 2022, the sales figures were higher, with 74,511 4Runner units sold, marking a 29.33% decrease in sales.

This suggests that while the model may have had a successful month in July 2023, it may have had difficulty translating the past year’s success into the new year.

Similarly, the Honda HR-V achieved a remarkable increase in sales in July 2023, with 8,919 units sold compared to the 4,322 units sold in 2022. These figures indicate an impressive growth of 106.36% in sales between July 2022 and 2023. However, when looking at year-to-date sales figures for 2022 and 2023, we see a sales decrease of 18.76%.

In 2022, Honda sold 77,338 units but experienced a decrease in sales in 2023, with the YTD figures showing only 62,829 units of the HR-V having been sold. Toyota Prius had the most impressive growth of the three vehicles, with 143.66% from one year to the next.

In July 2023, 3,940 Prius units were sold compared to the 1,617 units sold in July 2022. This remarkable surge suggests the vehicle captured a substantial market share during July.

However, despite the impressive growth, the vehicle still has a long way to go, as its YTD sales figures aren’t as exciting. In YTD 2023, Prius sold 16,645 units, while during the same period in 2022, total sales were 18,264 units. This represents a decrease of 8.86% in sales for the current year up to the same date compared to 2022.

Potential positive growth in sales by the end of the year

From the data provided by GoodCarBadCar, these vehicles all experienced a slow start to the year. However, they may be able to end the year strong and finish with positive growth in sales. When the year began, Honda managed to sell only 8,013 units of the HR-V. Honda has a reputation for longevity and reliability, which can work in favor of the HR-V.

The Toyota 4Runner started the year with 7,945 units sold and has experienced inconsistent sales throughout the first half. However, July was the model’s best sales month, with 11,206 units sold. The 4Runner is a popular SUV known for its rugged and off-road capabilities. This and Toyota’s reputation for producing reliable vehicles may help the 4Runner finish strong.

The Toyota Prius has also not had a good year starting off 2023, with only 2,486 units sold. July was the best month for the model, with 3,940 units sold, and while these numbers don’t instill much confidence, the Prius has one thing going for it: its fuel economy, offering hope for a solid 2023 finish.
