The Ford F-150 is the most popular vehicle in America, and new models fetch tens of thousands of dollars. But not all car shoppers want to spend that much money. Below are three affordable, reliable used Ford F-150 model years that cost less than $10,000.

1. The 2008 Ford F-150 is cheap and reliable

J.D. Power praises the 2008 Ford F-150. This truck has a “great” overall score of 83 out of 100, mainly due to its reliability. It got an 85, the highest reliability rating of the three model years on our list.

Because this truck is over 15 years old, used 2008 F-150s are cheap. On average, shoppers pay $5,000 to $12,000, J.D. Power reports. However, U.S. News estimates that people spend between $6,000 and $13,000. Either way, it’s a solid truck with a reliable 202-hp engine.

2. The 2009 Ford F-150 marked a new generation of the popular truck

Ford redesigned its most popular F-Series truck for the 2009 model year, improving its ratings in many areas. J.D. Power gave it an overall 84. It scored best in the driving experience category. That isn’t a surprise because the Blue Oval revamped the F-150’s engine options for this model year.

It starts with a 248-hp engine, a significant bump from the previous model year’s output. It’s still reliable, though, earning an 81 in that category.

Despite the redesign, it’s still an old truck, so its price is low. J.D. Power and U.S. News report that shoppers are paying at least $6,500 for a used 2009 Ford F-150. However, some consumers pay upward of $13,000 to $16,000.

3. The 2010 Ford F-150 boasts more features at an affordable price

The 2010 Ford F-150 builds on 2009’s redesign by adding more features. The cabin is upscale for the era, but its features can’t compare to those in newer models. Additionally, many of those features were options, such as leather upholstery, heated seats, and a voice-controlled infotainment system.

Besides those additional features, the 2010 F-150 is similar to the 2009 version, including under the hood. However, the 2010 model’s J.D. Power scores are slightly lower than the prior year. The 2010 F-150 has an overall 83 because of its 81 reliability score. However, its driving experience is an 87.

J.D. Power and U.S. News agree that people are paying at least $8,000 for a used 2010 F-150. The max price varies greatly, though. The market research firm says this model year can cost upward of $16,000, while the car review site shows around $23,000.
