These 3 Compact Electric SUVs Are Competing for the Crown in 2022
The electric SUV vehicle segment is extremely competitive. Compact SUVs are currently the most popular vehicles in America. Models like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V are responsible for a large number of annual SUV sales. The automaker that produces the best electric SUV could control a large percentage of the total market share. Here are 2022’s three best electric SUVs thus far, including models from Hyundai, Kia, and Ford.
The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 provides incredible value
The 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5 starts at $39,950. The federal electric vehicle tax incentive brings its price closer to $32,450. The Ioniq 5 comes in four different trim levels.
The final trim level, the Ioniq 5 Limited is practically a luxury SUV. The Ioniq 5 base model makes 168 horsepower. It has a 320 max horsepower output.
The Ioniq 5 has between 220 and 303 miles of range depending on which configuration you choose. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the World Car of the Year. It handles well and provides a smooth ride quality.
The 2022 Kia EV6 is a more stylish Ioniq 5
The 2022 Kia EV6 is Kia’s version of the Ioniq 5 electric SUV. The EV6 has a bolder styling and it has a performance trim that is mind-blowingly quick.
The Kia EV6 starts at $40,900. It is eligible for a $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit. The EV6 comes in three different trim levels. It makes between 168 and 320 horses depending on the configuration. The base model has a 232-mile driving range, but the EV6 has a 310-mile max driving range.
The 2022 Kia EV6 GT-Line can go from 0-60 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds. The EV6 is a perfect Mustang Mach-E rival from a design language perspective. It is the sportier electric SUV of the two South Korean models.
The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E is electrified American muscle
The Mach-E has the soul of a Mustang and the practicality of an SUV. It starts at $43,895. The Mach-E is still eligible for the full tax incentive, but the incentive may be reduced as Ford approaches an EV sales threshold.
The Mach-E makes between 266-480 horses depending on the trim. The base model has 224 miles of driving range. The electric SUV gets up to 314 miles of driving range. Ford claims that the Mach-E GT Performance Edition can go from 0-60 in just 3.5 seconds. Tell me it isn’t a real Mustang.
All three electric SUVs listed are featured on a list of best electric SUVs by U.S. News & World Report. The Ioniq 5 is the best model on the market, but the EV6 and Mach-E aren’t far behind. Which model do you think is the best electric SUV of the year?
