3 Electric SUVs With the Most Range That Aren’t a Tesla
If you’ve been following the news recently, you likely know that Tesla’s owner Elon Musk has been at the center of some controversy. And that has some wondering if they should avoid Tesla altogether. Although Tesla used to be the sole commander of the EV market, more and more brands are offering electric SUVs. So, which ones have the best range that aren’t Tesla?
2022 Kia EV6
Kia is set to make 11 new EV models by 2026, and the 2022 Kia EV6 is the first of those. The EV6 shares its platform with the Hyundai Ioniq 5, and it has been a fairly successful electric SUV. It is available in multiple trim levels, including the performance-oriented GT model. Plus, you can get up to 310 miles in electric range.
For most uses, 310 miles should be adequate. If you plan on taking a long road trip, planning out charging locations can be done without having to stop that often. The Kia EV6 has a starting MSRP of $48,215, and all-wheel drive is available. Kia was also sure to offer an optional heat pump for those who live in colder environments.
2022 Rivian R1S
OK, so if you are avoiding Tesla, you might be doing so because you want a traditional auto manufacturer. If that’s the case, Rivian may not be for you. But, this start-up company is doing some pretty cool things, including a take on an electric SUV, known as the 2022 Rivian R1S.
The R1S is Rivian’s EV SUV, and it has a maximum range of 316 miles, which is slightly more than the Rivian R1T electric truck. It does use the same 135.0-kWh battery that is found in the pickup. Plus, it does offer some off-road ability which might be attractive to some.
According to Car and Driver, the estimated cost will likely start somewhere around $70,000. That number is a big ask for a newcomer to the automotive industry. But, a 2022 Rivian R1S will certainly be different from most vehicles on the road today.
2022 BMW iX
Some folks might want a luxury EV SUV, and that is where the BMW iX comes in. This electric vehicle is from a German automotive brand, and it does promise and engaging driving experience. When equipped properly, the iX has a range of 324 miles. But, depending on which wheel size you get, that number will vary.
In terms of performance, a pair of electric motors will provide 516 horsepower. And because this SUV is electric, you’ll get near-instantaneous delivery of power.
Are Teslas still the best EVs?
Although there are more options on the market today, Tesla still produces a decent electric vehicle. There have been complaints of quality control issues and other problems, but you can get superior range.
The 2022 Tesla Model X has an electric range of nearly 350 miles. It also offers an optional third row of seating. Telsa has even said that this SUV can make up to 1020 hp, which is some serious performance from a vehicle of this size.
