The 2023 Nissan Ariya is a newcomer to the EV category, but it’s a bit of a wild card. Aside from its unique name, the Ariya has a bold and futuristic look, unlike any other EV on the market. It also has plenty of features that set it apart from the rest. Here are three features that make the Nissan Ariya ahead of its time.
The 2023 Nissan Ariya’s exterior design is funky but futuristic
The Ariya’s exterior aesthetic is part of Nissan’s new design language, which is described as “Timeless Japanese Futurism.” And while that description may sound a little weird, we think it’s fitting. The Ariya has a bold front fascia that’s comprised of a large shield with a 3-D imprinted “Kumiko” pattern.
The rear of the car is just as bold with its one-piece LED “light blade” and steeply raked rear window. Again, the Ariya may look different now, but we think its design will withstand the test of time.
The Ariya has a spacious open-concept interior
The Nissan Ariya’s interesting look extends to its interior as well. Open the door and sit in the driver’s seat, and you’ll be surprised at how spacious the interior is. Unlike other cars in the market today, the Ariya has a floating center console and dashboard design reminiscent of cars from the 80s. We say that because there is a lot of open space under the dash area due to the lack of necessary mechanical components you would find in a gas-powered car.
The floating center console is also powered, which means that the whole unit slides back and forth with the push of a button to adjust to your liking. There are also USB ports for charging along with a cubby to hold the cord and your phone.
One of our favorite features is the slide-out drawer that’s opened and closed via buttons on the center console. The drawer has a cover that acts as a small desk so you can handwrite your memoirs while waiting for the car to charge.

In addition to the handy drawer and interior design, the Nissan Ariya has a few tech-savvy features worth noting. The Pro Pilot Assist 2.0 system is the most notable safety feature, which includes adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and rear-cross traffic alerts. There’s also a digital rearview mirror display and a dual-screen layout that sits on the dash.
Each screen measure 12.3 inches, one for the driver information and one for infotainment duties. The infotainment menus are easy to navigate through, and we liked that the car comes with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The Ariya is built on a completely new platform, so Nissan took a different approach to its design. Overall, we think it works well and should last for many years to come.
