3 of the best Ford Bronco alternatives that aren’t the Jeep Wrangler
Sometimes when it comes to off-roading SUVs, you want the one with the best capabilities. But that often comes with consequences. The beefiest off-roaders lack refinement on the pavement. Instead of going for the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler, consider something more comfortable.
The best Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler alternatives
First of all, I’m not here to hate on the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler. I’ve spent weeks with them and even led a rock climbing trail in Utah.
But using a Bronco or Wrangler to get to the trail shows how loud the interiors are and how bumpy the ride quality is. Other options are better suited for comfortable road trips.
1. The Toyota 4Runner
While the Toyota 4Runner doesn’t represent the best fuel economy, it does excel in comfort and reliability. It has a durable body-on-frame construction, like the Bronco and Wrangler. Plus, it features a high ground clearance and rugged suspension system.
It has a third row in case you have extra passengers on your trip. Also, the 4Runner has tons of passenger and cargo space for the entire family’s gear.
The infotainment system and tech may seem dated, but it’s easy to use. However, it’s noticeably dated compared to rivals.
2. The Land Rover Defender
I know, the Land Rover Defender doesn’t command the same respect as the all-American Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler SUVs. However, I’ve taken it on off-roading expeditions all over the country.
It can keep up with the Bronco and Wrangler with ease in most cases. It has outstanding axle hopping, water fording, and rock climbing capabilities.
Plus, the Defender is plush and comfortable with a smooth ride and quiet interior. It’s rugged and convenient. Just watch out for its reliability rating.
3. The Jeep Gladiator
You may think that the Jeep Gladiator is just a Wrangler truck and that’s not wrong. However, the Gladiator has a longer wheelbase to provide a smoother ride than the Wrangler. Plus, it received sound-dampening improvements for the 2024 year.
Also, why not consider a truck instead of an SUV? The bed is convenient for hauling gear and smaller off-roading vehicles like dirt bikes.
If you need extra room, the Gladiator can tow up to 7,500 lbs. The Wrangler maxes out at 5,000 lbs and the Bronco can only tow up to 4,500 lbs.
