In the market for a new truck? These are some of the best full-size pickup trucks on the market for 2022 and one truck worth avoiding altogether. Ford, Ram, and Toyota’s usual suspects appeared, but there are plenty of positives to report for these pickup trucks.
The Ford F-150 is one of the best full-size pickup trucks on the market
Edmunds loves the 2022 Ford F-150 pickup truck, but owners do too. Ford makes it easy to customize the F-150 in whatever way fits buyers’ needs. Edmunds says it checks all boxes: power, efficiency, comfort, and capability. There are various engine choices, including a hybrid and the F-150 Lightning electric truck. Edmunds suggests the Lariat trim since it offers additional safety features like blind-spot monitor, lane-keeping assist, and automatic rear braking. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) even gives this truck a five-star safety rating.

The Ram 1500 is another good option for full-size pickup trucks
Edmunds put the 2022 Ram 1500 in second place, but there really isn’t much to complain about. This Ram truck offers a smooth ride thanks to a “distinct rear suspension design,” Edmunds says. The V6 and V8 engines are solid choices, and the EcoDiesel V6 is another good option. Forward collision warning with active braking, blind-spot monitoring, and LaneSense are some of the noteworthy safety features of the 2022 Ram truck. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave this full-size pickup truck the highest rating of “good” on some tests.

Toyota’s Tundra is capable and reliable
The 2022 Toyota Tundra is third on Edmunds’ list, but this truck has a lot to like. Toyota has been working on updating the Tundra and offers two solid engine choices: the base turbo V6 or the hybrid V6 i-Force Max. The automaker also updated the suspension to provide a better ride and a new, more durable frame design. Towing numbers improved to 12,000 pounds on this full-size pickup truck, which isn’t class-leading, but plenty for the casual truck driver. Pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, full-speed range dynamic radar cruise control, and lane-departure warning with steering assist are some of the best safety features.

Unfortunately, the Nissan Titan got left in the dust
Out of six similar trucks, the 2022 Nissan Titan came in last. Edmunds says it is below average, coming in behind rivals on most details. The Nissan truck offers a comfortable enough cabin and a respectable towing maximum. Nissan’s full-size truck doesn’t have enough powertrains, features, or body styles compared to similarly priced trucks. The Nissan Safety Shield 360 advanced driver assist features include automatic emergency braking, intelligent cruise control, and blind-spot warning. Oddly enough, the Titan has one of the highest starting prices on the list. For the money, this truck’s competition has more to offer.

Full-size pickup trucks like these offer more durability and capability than your average truck. There are many ways to customize these trucks to suit each buyer’s needs. This year, supply chain issues have been an issue, making it harder to find some popular Ford, Toyota, and Ram trucks. Hopefully, those issues will start to clear up as 2023 rolls in.
