3 Issues Hold the 2023 Toyota Sequoia Back From Greatness
The new Toyota Sequioa is here to show off attractive new looks and a fresh interior. It’s certainly an excellent SUV to consider, thanks to its durable and reliable reputation. But the 2023 Toyota Sequoia might not the best option. There are three drawbacks to consider.
Is the 2023 Toyota Sequoia worth buying?
Yes, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia is an excellent family SUV to buy. It’s spacious, comfortable, and efficient, thanks to the standard hybrid powertrain. It can be equipped for off-roading or with unmatched levels of luxury.
The new Sequoia has been totally revamped for the first time in 14 years with modern tech, a little extra towing muscle, and a refreshed interior that attracts the eye. The Sequoia is here to challenge rivals, but a few things hold it back.
1. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia cost
The 2023 Toyota Sequoia price starts at $58,300, and the top-spec TRD Pro trim raises the price to $76,000. This price isn’t too shocking, considering that everything is on the up and up.
However, the 2023 Ford Expedition starts at $52,905, and the cream-of-the-crop Platinum trim increases the price to $79,620.
It costs $5,395 less to get started with the Expedition. The Chevy Tahoe and Suburban start at lower prices too. Also, according to Auto Blog, rivals are more competitive and provide more value.
2. The Sequoia has less space
Rivals might be better for family trips than the 2023 Toyota Sequoia. The Ford Expedition has more space in the third row and allows the second-row seats to slide forward and back.
Auto Blog noted that the third row of the Sequoia sits pretty close to the ground. Adults may have to hold their knees to their chest, and it’s a tight fight.
Also, the third row doesn’t fold flat, and it can’t be moved. It can’t create a flat loading floor. Large and bulky items have the be lifted over the third row, which could be inconvenient.
The Ford Expedition has up to 104.6 cubic feet of cargo space, and the Chevy Tahoe provides up to 122.9 cubes, while the Sequioa maxes out at 86.9 cubes. The Sequoia has a built-in organizational system with shelving. It’s pretty versatile but could be in the way.
On a positive note, the Sequoia has an excellent amount of storage for personal items. The center console is huge, the door pockets are generous, and you can find plenty of cup holders.
3. The 2023 Sequoia has a rough ride
The folks at Auto Blog shared that the ride quality for each 2023 Toyota Sequoia model is just ok. It has a soft suspension and rear solid axle, which can lead to bumps. The Capstone trim adds larger wheels to mix, leading to a shaky ride full of vibrations.
It’s supposed to provide entry-level Cadillac Escalade comfort but misses the mark. The cabin can be pretty loud without the extra sound-dampening materials that come with the most expensive Castone trim too.
There are plenty of great things to mention about the Sequoia, like its advanced tech, stout towing capacity, and hybrid power. However, it costs more than rivals, has less cargo space, and has a rougher ride.
