When it comes to reliability studies, pickup trucks don’t always do so well. In the latest Consumer Reports survey, three particular trucks, even among the lowest in reliability, prove to be the worst. Here are those three least reliable pickups of 2022. It might have you rethinking your truck purchase.
1. The 2022 Ford F-150 Hybrid is one of the least reliable 2022 pickup trucks
Ford is no stranger to high reliability ratings for its vehicles. Consumer Reports does applaud the Ford Edge, the Ford Maverick, and the Ford Maverick Hybrid in its latest study. However, the Ford F-150 Hybrid is one of the least reliable pickup trucks of 2022.
Hybrid vehicles and EV models, because they’re newer, tend to have a few reliability hiccups within their first few model years. However, the Ford F-150 Hybrid, as USA Today reports, is even at the bottom of the list.
Earning poor scores in predicted reliability, consumers should be aware of potential electrical system issues, power equipment problems, and engine mishaps. Consumers also reported noise and leak concerns, along with drive system issues.
2. The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 and 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 both fall behind in reliability ratings
Chevrolet does happen to fall within some of the top-ranking brands in this CR reliability survey. However, it’s the Trailblazer that earns high remarks, not the popular Chevy Silverado 1500 with its poor ratings. The poor performance here is the same for the Silverado’s cousin, the GMC Sierra 1500.
Usually regarded as beefy, workhorse performers, there’s plenty to love about both of these trucks. Still, beware of potential reliability concerns like those reported by past pickup owners. There are reports of minor engine issues, as well as transmission troubles. Additionally, one of the more common complaints from these pickup owners was the exhaust, with surveys citing muffler, pipes, manifold, and catalytic converter issues.
3. The 2022 Jeep Gladiator leaves reliability to be desired
Consumers were ecstatic when Jeep took the leap into the truck sector with the Jeep Gladiator. However, the Gladiator did not rate well in 2022 surveys and in scoring for predicted reliability.
The Gladiator has more than a few trouble spots. Beware of issues concerning the steering, suspension, electrical system, and drive system. According to the Consumer Reports study, other problematic areas involve noise and leaks.
Take these least reliable pickup truck rankings with a grain of salt
This Consumer Reports study is rooted in actual vehicle ownership experiences from their member surveys and past model complaints. That’s why it can be an excellent guide for new car owners. However, it’s also worth noting that not all vehicles in a particular segment will present the same experiences.
While these particular pickups landed at the bottom of the predicted reliability list, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not worth test-driving or buying, for that matter. The goal is to educate consumers so they can ask all the right questions and know precisely what to consider before investing in any new ride.
Regarding reliability, sedans, hatchbacks, and coupes rank as the most reliable vehicle types. SUVs and minivans appear next in line, while pickup trucks rate as the least reliable.
