Lexus is one of the most well-known and popular luxury automakers in the world, and that usually means that Lexus models have great sales numbers. While the Japanese luxury automaker is very successful, like any other automaker, Lexus has a few models that are simply doing worse than the rest of the lineup. Here’s a look at the three Lexus models that are struggling to get off of dealership lots right now in 2023.

Here’s how poorly these three Lexus models are selling right now

GoodCarBadCar updated its sales chart with data up to July 2023, and while Lexus is doing very well, the luxury automaker has three models that are actually near the bottom in terms of sales. Those three Lexus models are the LS, the LC, and the RC.

Unsurprisingly, they’re all sedans. So far this year, Lexus has only sold about 1,395 units of the LS. The LC and RC are doing worse as the automaker only sold 987 units of the LC, and 978 units of the RC. 

Those poor sales numbers mean that all three of those Lexus models are in the bottom 10 cars in terms of year-to-date sales. Only low-volume cars like the Mazda MX-30 and discontinued cars like the Hyundai Accent sold worse.

On top of that, the LS and RC saw a significant decline in sales compared to last year. The LS is currently selling 6.4% worse, while the RC is selling 29.4% worse.

The 2023 Lexus LS is a solid full-size luxury sedan

While these three Lexus sedans aren’t selling well, they aren’t bad cars by any means. The LS is a full-size luxury sedan that starts at about $77,000. That high price tag helps explain why few people are buying an LS. It’s much cheaper than its German counterparts though, and that price tag pays for a luxurious interior and a powerful engine.

It comes with a 3.4-liter twin-turbo V6 that gets 416 hp. That makes it very powerful for most drivers, but its rivals tend to have more power. Its luxurious interior, which includes leather upholstery and a 12.3-inch touchscreen, also helps make it worth its price.

The 2023 Lexus LC is a nice, luxurious sports car

The LC is similar to the LS, but it’s better overall. It’s a $95,000 luxury sports car, and once again, that explains its low sales. It starts with a 5.0-liter V8 that gets 471 hp, and this engine helps give the car a great driving experience. Since it’s a luxury sports car, the interior isn’t the best as it’s more focused on performance than comfort. 

There are four seats, and next to no cargo space. However, the seats are comfortable and made with leather. Despite the low seating capacity, the seats themselves have plenty of space for whoever is sitting in them.

The 2023 Lexus RC can be very fun to drive

The RC is the worst-selling Lexus model right now, and its $44,000 price tag doesn’t explain it. What might explain its poor sales numbers is the segment that it’s in. Like the LC, the RC is a luxury sports car, but it focuses more on being sporty than anything else. It starts with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder that makes 241 hp, but Lexus gave it many engine options, including the 5.0-liter V8 that the LC has.

Since the RC is such a small car, when it’s equipped with that V8 engine, it becomes the fastest Lexus on the market. It’s not bad on the inside either. It seats four, and synthetic leather upholstery is standard. The Japanese automaker offers more luxury options too.
