Most brands that produce luxury cars don’t have pickup trucks, as the stereotypical image doesn’t often evoke a luxury or high-class feel. However, as with any rule, there are exceptions; in this case, there are three. Read on to learn more about the three luxury automakers that have designed pickup truck models. 

GMC makes several pickups

Some might not consider GMC a luxury brand, but we’d argue otherwise. After all, it effectively provides luxury versions of the Chevy Colorado and Silverado. In addition, buyers of GMC models can enhance the luxurious feel of their vehicles by selecting the top-of-the-line Denali trim. 

GMC produces three pickup truck models: the Canyon, the Sierra 1500, and the Sierra HD. According to GMC, the Canyon is a small pickup with a 3.6 L engine capable of an impressive 308 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. According to GMC, the Sierra 1500 is a light-duty truck that the manufacturer calls “the most advanced and luxurious pickup in its class.” The base trim on the Sierra 1500, the Pro,  comes with a 2.7L Turbo high-output engine capable of 310 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque.

Finally, there’s the GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500HD, which are heavy-duty pickups featuring base-model 6.6L V8 engines capable of 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. 

Rivian is among the luxury automakers that produce pickup trucks

Next on our list of luxury brands that haven’t shied away from pickups is Rivian, known for its R1T. Since its introduction, the R1T has been turning heads and impressing reviewers from Consumer Reports and elsewhere. 

Billed as the “world’s first electric adventure vehicle,” the pickup doesn’t come cheap. Its starting price is currently listed at $73,000. 

Just what do you get for that price? For starters, you get a vehicle with an electric range of anywhere between 260 and 400+ miles, depending on what battery pack and motor you choose. You also get a truck with remarkable acceleration capability. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in as little as 3 seconds, which is on par with some of the best supercars.

Off-roading is a pleasure in the R1T as well. The truck can navigate three feet of water and has an impressive ground clearance of 14.9 inches. All in all, it’s easy to see why this electric pickup has gotten such rave reviews. 

Tesla is also on the verge of releasing a luxury pickup

Last on our list of luxury automakers tackling the pickup market is Tesla, known primarily for its electric cars. Tesla has been teasing the release of its electric Cybertruck pickup for quite some time,  and according to Car and Driver, the truck is now scheduled to be released in 2023 following a series of delays. 

The base model Cybertruck is expected to be remarkably affordable, starting at $39,900. For that price, you get a single-motor truck capable of going from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and reaching a speed of up to 110 mph.

Those wanting more power can shell out more dough to get the trimotor configuration, capable of a range of up to 500 miles and towing capability of up to 14,000 lbs. The trimotor truck is said to reach 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and speeds up to 130 mph. That truck will set you back at least $69,900, however. 

Of course, whether Tesla will follow through on the release of the Cybertruck this time remains an open question. Even if it doesn’t, consumers have at least a few other choices for pickups from luxury brands.
