3 Midsize Trucks With the Best Resale Value in 2023
When it comes to getting a new midsize truck in 2023, resale value might be on your mind. New pickups aren’t cheap, and it makes sense that resale value plays a factor in the buying decision. With these three midsize trucks, you might be able to find the pickup with the best resale value in 2023.
Do midsize trucks hold their value?
In terms of holding value, trucks often do better than other vehicles. Pickup trucks are known to last a long time with proper maintenance, and because of that, they can fetch a higher price on the used market. Especially if the midsize truck in question is a sought-after model like the Toyota Tacoma.
According to J.D. Power, these three midsize trucks have the best resale value in 2023. And if you are familiar with this segment, the contenders aren’t all that surprising.
3. 2023 Ford Ranger
The Ford Ranger sits below the F-150 and above the Ford Maverick in terms of its size. It might not be the most popular midsize pickup, but it does appear to hold its value on the used market. Each Ranger comes equipped with a four-cylinder EcoBoost engine that makes 270 horsepower and is body-on-frame.
An updated Ranger is expected to arrive for the 2024 model year. And when it gets here, it will probably breathe some more life into the model. Especially if the Blue Oval offers a Ford Ranger Raptor here in the States.
2. 2023 Jeep Gladiator
Much like the Ranger, the Gladiator isn’t too much of a hot item. In terms of Jeep products, things like the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler reign supreme. But, the Gladiator does have a lot to like about it. The Rubicon model comes from the factory ready to handle off-roading. You also get a standard V6 engine and the option for a six-speed manual.
Another cool feature of this Jeep truck is the available turbodiesel engine. If you’ve been looking for a midsize diesel truck, the Gladiator is basically the only option on the new market. And it’s unclear how long Jeep will continue to offer a diesel Gladiator.
1. 2023 Toyota Tacoma
I’ll be honest; objectively speaking, in 2023, the Tacoma is not really the best pickup truck. But it’s got a huge following behind it. Because of that, the Toyota Tacoma tends to be one of the best sellers in this segment. Even with higher miles, these pickups can demand a high premium on the used market.
Anecdotally, I know a person who sold a 2018 Toyota Tacoma in 2022 for the same price as when they got it new. Granted, the car market was pretty crazy at that time. But it is an example of the kind of resale value you can see from a Toyota truck.
A new Tacoma is expected to come in the near future. As it stands, the current generation is starting to show its age a bit. It certainly feels old-school when you compare it to a newer truck like the Nissan Frontier or Chevy Colorado. But that is something that Toyota fans seem to appreciate about their midsize pickups.
