Hyundai had a variety of SUVs in its lineup, and the Tucson was one of the more popular options. Before signing on the dotted line, here are some of the most common 2022 Hyundai Tucson problems reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Some of these sport utility vehicles have not had any issues, while others seem to have been impacted more.

The engine seems to be one of the most common 2022 Hyundai Tucson problems

Even though the 2022 Hyundai Tucson is pretty new, it has more than 100 complaints on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. The NHTSA listing shows 112 complaints so far, with many drivers referencing the electrical system as a problem. Some drivers complained that the infotainment system would stop working without warning.

This meant the Apple CarPlay and Bluetooth functions would not work, along with the screen for the backup camera. Upon taking it to the dealership, Hyundai found a short in the radio/amp and replaced both under warranty. There is a Technical Service Bulletin from the automaker that replaced the External Amplifier and related pieces.

Other drivers noted that the 2022 Hyundai Tucson would stop accelerating and instruct the vehicle to pull over. A “Limited to 20 MPH” message appeared on the dashboard. Some report that after the lack of acceleration, a warning read, “HEV Check Hybrid System Stop Safely.” Currently, there is no related recall for the acceleration or electrical issue.

Many of the most common 2022 Hyundai Tucson problems relate to the same issues. This falls under the powertrain and unknown categories since the dealership has been unable to replicate the case in many instances. One driver complained that the Emergency Braking System engaged without a vehicle in front of it and failed to move.

One common complaint is that the driver assistance systems did not work in an emergency. When the brakes failed to engage, none of the forward collision avoidance systems turned on, and one driver was involved in an accident. Some complain that these systems work erratically and do not always come on as intended.

Looking at Car Complaints, the same types of complaints are listed. The worst 2022 Hyundai Tucson problems are the engine not starting, the windshield cracking significantly, and the SUV dying while driving.

According to comments on the NHTSA, the windshield wipers have been an issue.

Another common 2022 Hyundai Tucson problem is the windshield or windows impacting visibility. Drivers noted that the windshield wipers were affecting visibility during inclement weather. Others pointed out that the windshield or windows would crack prematurely.

At this time, there are two recalls noted. The first relates to the roof moldings detecting and becoming a road hazard, which can increase the crash risk. Another recall for inoperable headlights or taillights required an update to the ICU. This can be done at the local dealership free of charge.

While the 2022 Tucson is still popular, some of these issues have been popping up in the last few months. It does not appear the 2023 or 2021 versions suffer from the same problems, which might be something to consider. Even though there is no recall, one could be issued in the next few months to address some of the common problems reported to the NHTSA.
