Kia’s first-ever fully-electric midsize SUV is coming. The Kia EV9 is an electric vehicle that borrows elements from the popular Kia Telluride midsize SUV and Kia EVs like the EV6 small electric SUV. The introduction of any new electric vehicle is exciting, but automotive enthusiasts have high expectations for the EV9 due to its lineage. It has the potential to become an electric Telluride. It could also flop. It’s too early to tell how the EV9 will be received when it finally hits the scene, but here are some cool facts that Kia revealed at the 2023 New York International Auto Show.

Kia execs and reps announced that the EV9 midsize electric SUV will be assembled in Georgia sometime in 2024. So, why is that so exciting for drivers? It means that the EV could qualify for federal electric vehicle tax incentives. A $7,500 tax credit could put a major dent in the EV9’s starting price (which could be close to $55,000).

The EV9’s affordability may be dependent on its tax incentive eligibility for many drivers. If the 2024 Kia EV9 is eligible for the tax credit, there may only be a small window of time that consumers are willing to pay its starting price until the incentive is gradually phased out. EVs can be exciting, but affordable EVs are even more exciting for plenty of drivers. So, the fact that the 2024 Kia EV9 will be assembled in the Kia West Point Assembly Plant in 2024 is great news for consumers.

The wait for the EV9 is almost over

No official release date for the innovative new midsize electric SUV is available yet, but Kia claims that the EV9 should arrive toward the end of 2023. Perhaps we’ll get a holiday season release date. Either way, consumers should only have to wait for roughly seven more months before having the opportunity to get first dibs on an EV9.

The EV has been on the minds of many auto enthusiasts since its prototype made its rounds at several popular auto shows. The 2024 Kia EV9 is, in a word, futuristic. Many fans can’t wait to see just how far the SUV pushes the envelope. Will Kia’s new midsize electric SUV live up to high expectations?

Kia’s new EV should have plenty of driving range

During the 2024 Kia EV9’s New York Auto Show reveal, the brand’s execs claimed that the midsize electric SUV has a targeted 300-mile driving range. Most new EVs have a standard driving range of between 220 and 250 miles. If the EV9 has at least 300 miles of range on a single charge, it will be practical enough for plenty of drivers. Factor in fast charging and home chargers and the EV9 could make a reliable daily driver for many consumers in terms of driving range.

The EV9’s targeted driving range comes as a relief to many drivers. After all, if the nameplate is to be successful, it’ll have to have enough driving range to go the distance. EV9 models with a larger battery pack could have an even further total driving range.

The Kia EV9 has incredible potential. It isn’t likely to be nearly as popular as the gas-powered Kia Telluride anytime soon, but the sky is the limit for the new electric vehicle. The 2024 Kia EV9 is positioned to make a major impact when it finally hits the streets. Car and Driver estimates that the electric SUV will start at around $56,000.
