Maserati is known for its elegant styling, exciting powertrains, and the only way to procure a four-door Ferrari. What the company isn’t known for, however, is reliability. Yes, all that Italian flamboyance comes at a price.

Despite their presumed lack of dependability, all Maseratis aren’t bad. Some are much more reliable than others. Automotive research firm iSeeCars recently analyzed over 12 million cars to determine how reliable each Maserati model is. Moreover, how they rank them relative to their steep competition.

#1: Maserati Quattroporte

The sixth generation Maserati Quattroporte comes with a tandem of titillating engines. A twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 will put down either 345 or 424 horsepower. A larger twin-turbo 3.8-liter V8 will provide a tire-shredding 580 horsepower. A 3.0-liter diesel is available, but how exciting is that? Regardless, each will power the most reliable Maserati in question.

iSeeCars rates the Quattroporte’s reliability at 6.4 out of 10. CoPilot asserts that the Quattroporte had numerous reports from drivers having clutch problems. Unfortunately, the problem occurs around 13,000 to 30,000 miles. The common fix is to replace the clutch, which is thousands of dollars.

#2: Maserati Levante

Maserati’s first SUV offers family-friendly utility while focusing on the driving experience. Staffed with the before-mentioned engines, the Levante has a standout Italian style, with five seats and four trim levels. Despite some practical shortcomings, it has much to offer in passion, panache, and power.

With a reliability score of 6.2 out of 10, it ranks as the second most reliable Maserati. A report from Jerry details that an “inadequate” electrical system may result in hefty repairs. Luckily, it isn’t as bad as clutch problems. They also claim that owners reported a loss of power steering and a brake reset, causing the Levante to jerk and stop while driving.

#3: Maserati Ghibli

Quite similar to the Quattroporte but set up more for fun, the Ghibli is an additional 200-mph sports sedan for discerning customers. With brawny twin-turbo drivetrains and handsome styling, its refined ride is on par with anything in the luxury segment.

The Ghibli gets a reliability score of 5.9 out of 10. Considering its resemblances with the Quattroporte, the Ghibli also suffers from clutch issues. Again, it may likely need a replacement before 30,000 miles. Another issue befalling the sedan is braking problems. Customers claim the brakes work fine but reported having to refill the fluid reservoir more than normal.

Is buying a Maserati worth it?

Maserati cars and SUVs are some of the most impressive vehicles money can buy. However, impressive seldom means cheap. Choosing a relatively rare and exclusive vehicle typically means spending more than the average driver on repairs and parts.

When one purchases a product from General Motors or Toyota, they can sleep comfortably knowing that replacement parts are just a short drive away. Maseratis share a significant amount of parts—including the engine—from Ferrari. As one may expect, a small-batch manufacturer, whether Ferrari or Maserati (currently under the Stellantis umbrella), doesn’t have OEM parts at the local auto parts store. Moreover, Maserati dealerships are few and far between, and so are mechanics to work on them.

Buying a Maserati means one will spend much more over the life of the car than the average vehicle owner. However, a Maserati isn’t just a means of transportation. It’s two tons of unparalleled passion and soul.
