3 New Cars That Are the Biggest Waste of Money
As a car buyer, it’s challenging to find a car that you’ll be satisfied with and won’t leave you disappointed. There are many good new cars available. However, there are also quite a few that are overpriced for what they offer, along with drawbacks such as unreliability, an unattractive design, and inadequate driving dynamics. Here are the three new cars that are the biggest waste of money.
2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is a big waste of money
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class midsize luxury SUV, which has a starting price of $56,150 MSRP, is the new car that is the biggest waste of money, as detailed by HotCars. The reason why the GLE is such a big waste of money is its unreliability. Consumer Reports gave the 2022 GLE a ridiculously low reliability rating of 5 out of 100. This is the lowest reliability score of any SUV that Consumer Reports tested.
The GLE has a stylish design and the cachet of the Mercedes-Benz brand. However, it’s hard to overlook its unreliability. The issues that Consumer Reports cited for the GLE include problems with its electrical system, climate system, in-car electronics, body integrity, and engine.
Avoid wasting your money on a 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia
The second model on HotCar’s list of cars that are the biggest waste of money is the 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia midsize luxury sedan, which has a starting price of $43,350 MSRP. One of the reasons why the Guila is a waste of money is its engine, which is weaker compared to its luxury car competitors.
Also, the Guila is very unreliable. It received a Consumer Reports reliability rating of 13 out of 100. Additionally, the NHTSA recalled the Giulia two times. A significant portion of Giula’s unreliability is due to axle and suspension problems.
Furthermore, the Giulia costs a lot of money to maintain. Along with its unreliability, this costliness is because many of its “components and parts are unique” to the Alfa Romeo brand. Also, relative to its luxury sedan rivals, the Giulia has less interior space and is not as comfortable. Also, it’s less practical.
The 2022 Subaru Ascent is a waste of your hard-earned cash
The third model on the list of cars that are the biggest waste of money is the 2022 Subaru Ascent three-row midsize SUV, which has a starting price of $32,295 MSRP. Subaru has a much-deserved reputation for producing reliable vehicles. However, the Ascent is a rare exception for the Japanese automaker.
Reliability issues for the Ascent first showed in 2019, its first model year of production. It had a recall for transmission issues. The midsize SUV had little improvement from 2020 to 2021. And for 2022, Consumer Reports gave the Ascent a reliability rating of only 18 out of 100. In addition to its noisy CVT transmission, the Ascent has reliability issues with its climate system, electronics, brakes, and power equipment.
Part of the car buying process is deciding which cars not to buy. If you don’t want to waste your money, it’s best to avoid the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, 2022 Alfa Romeo Giulia, and 2022 Subaru Ascent.
