Fortunately, there are many great electric SUV options. Here’s a look at three of the best electric SUVs you might want to consider.
3. Kia EV6
According to Kelley Blue Book, the 2023 Kia EV6 is the third-best electric SUV on the American market. The primary reason the EV6 is such an excellent electric SUV is because it does well in most areas drivers care about while having few major issues. That said, the EV6 is relatively expensive, starting at about $48,500. This is a recent change, as Kia removed the cheapest trim option from the 2023 model year.
The standard EV6 comes with a single electric motor that gets 225 hp and 310 miles on a single charge. One of the other changes Kia gave the electric SUV for the new model year is the GT trim. This trim allows the Kia to get 576 hp from its two electric motors, but its range drops to 206 miles. Overall, the EV6 has an upscale and modern interior with few issues. However, its cargo capacity of 50.2 cu-ft isn’t great for an SUV.
2. Ford Mustang Mach-E
Ford wanted to give an electric update to the legendary Mustang brand name, and it did just that with the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E. It starts at around $47,000, but its standard specs aren’t too impressive, as it gets 266 hp and 247 miles of range. However, in true Mustang fashion, Ford offers a variety of powertrain options that will give drivers what they’re looking for.
For example, the California Route 1 trim gets 346 hp while having the longest range that Ford offers, with 312 miles. On the other hand, the GT trim gives the Mustang 480 hp while still getting 270 miles of range. This trim allows the Mach-E to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. In addition to the powerful motors, Ford also gave the Mach-E some premium features.
Every Mach-E has luxury features like simulated leather upholstery, a 15.5-inch vertical touch screen, and a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster display. Ford BlueCruise, the automaker’s semi-autonomous self-driving system, is also offered on all Mach-E models. The Mach-E has a max cargo capacity of 59.7 cu-ft, which is decent for the segment.
1. Hyundai Ioniq 5
Kelley Blue Book’s best electric SUV shouldn’t be a surprise, as it’s the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5, which has won many awards lately. The Ioniq 5 is similar to the EV6, but thanks to the changes the two automakers gave their cars in the 2023 model year, there are more differences between them. Pricing is the big one, as Hyundai kept its cheapest trim option available. The Ioniq 5 starts at about $41,500, which is a reasonable price for an EV.
Its standard powertrain isn’t excellent, as it gets 168 hp and 220 miles of range. Hyundai does offer a longer range option that gets 225 hp and 303 miles of range. The Ioniq 5’s interior is where it really shines. In fact, its only flaw is that it may be “too futuristic for some.” It comes with a 12.3-inch touch screen and 2.3-inch digital gauge cluster display, with a max cargo capacity of about 59.3 cu-ft.
