It seems like more new trucks are on the market than ever before, but that hasn’t made finding some of the most popular ones easy. Automakers like Ford and Chevrolet are trying to keep up with demand, but supply chain issues and semiconductor chip shortages have proved to be a roadblock. These are three pickup trucks for 2023 that everyone wants to buy and can’t, for whatever reason.

Ford’s Maverick is the pickup truck for 2023 that everyone wants

While Edmunds had a lot of positives to say about the 2023 Ford Maverick, don’t ask buyers waiting in line for one. Ford made the Maverick good, almost too good, and can’t keep up with production. With its $21,000 starting price, the list of buyers for the first version of the Ford Maverick was long. So long, many of those buyers from 2022 have been pushed to a 2023 model. That means that there are even fewer 2023 Ford Mavericks to go around.

With 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway with the turbo 2.0-liter engine, that is solid fuel economy for most buyers. The hybrid version gets 42 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, making it even harder to find. As the poster child for pickup trucks for 2023 that everyone wants to buy and can’t, Ford says the 2023 Maverick is sold out.

Starting at: $21,000

You can bet the Ford F-150 Lightning is a pickup truck that everyone wants to buy

Along the same lines as the Maverick, the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning has been hard to find. Ford revealed at one point that the Lightning had more than 200,000 reservations for the first set of trucks. The automaker has been working hard on getting those deliveries out, but plenty of people won’t get ahold of the electric truck this year.

Ford offers the Lightning in a standard and an extended-range battery. The standard range gets 240 miles on a charge for 2023 (up 10 miles over last year), and the extended range sits at 320 miles. Ford says it plans on increasing production to 150,000 units for the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, but you probably won’t find these languishing on dealership lots. Most are already spoken for.

You might be able to find the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 might be the easiest truck to find on this list, but it isn’t always that simple. While Ford has some excellent vehicles that people seem to want, Chevy has been there to offer buyers other options. That means certain versions of the 2023 Silverado are already in short supply.

Chevrolet says that due to supply-chain shortages, some features aren’t available right now or at all. Chevrolet can add some things later, but buyers might not get all the promised features.

MSRP range: $41,300 – $70,100

While automakers have been working hard to overcome these production shortages, these may last through some part of next year. This means there could be more pickup trucks for 2023 that people want and can’t get. The best way to get your hands on a popular vehicle is to place an order as soon as the order banks open, but this isn’t foolproof either. Like many Maverick buyers found out, sometimes that still doesn’t work.
