3 Potential 2023 Chevy Colorado Drawbacks to Consider
You may notice that the completely redesigned Chevrolet Colorado is the hot truck on the market. It’s getting all the attention since the new Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma won’t be here for a while. But being new doesn’t mean the 2023 Chevy Colorado is perfect.

We will quickly admit that the 2023 Chevy Colorado has significant upgrades to consider if you’re in the market for a fresh midsize truck. It has a more confident look, a refined interior, and advanced tech.
Plus, the 2023 Colorado is coming after the Toyota Tacoma with a host of off-roading enhancements and new trim levels. Some critics are placing the new Colorado at the top of the list. However, a few of its features could still be improved.
1. The 2023 Colorado is tight
According to Pickup Truck Talk, the 2023 Chevy Colorado still has a tight backseat. The previous model limits passenger space in the rear, especially for adults, and the new generation still struggles.
People around 5’7″ may notice that while in the back seat, their knees hit the back of the front seats. There isn’t exactly room to stretch out, and the rear is only comfortable for short trips around town.
Also, installing rear-facing child seats may seem impossible. It’s not the best option for four adults. But the new layout improves space and comfort for the driver. There’s a more convenient layout that places everything within reach.
2. The new Colorado has a few tech issues
The 2023 Chevy Colorado made a few tech decisions that are a little odd and possibly frustrating. Some physical controls are integrated into the new 11.3-inch touchscreen. For example, you need to use the touchscreen to adjust the headlight controls.
You won’t find a physical knob or button to change the headlight settings. So you have to rely on the automatic LED headlights to do their job or learn how to access the main menu and adjust the settings.
The system is operated by Google and looks great. The graphics are pretty vibrant, but for some reason, the camera resolution falls short. The reverse camera and 360-degree camera views are a little blurry.
Some critics wonder why Chevrolet would put so much effort into improving the tech without upgrading the camera resolution.
3. The Colorado could have a better standard engine
The 2023 Chevy Colorado has more power than before, but the base engine falls short. The standard 2.7-liter four-cylinder turbo cranks out 237 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. It’s up from 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque with the outgoing model.
While it feels a bit faster, it seems to experience lag and can be slow to respond. You may need a little extra time to pass others or to merge into traffic. The new eight-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, and the brakes are confident, but power is lacking.
You can upgrade to the 2.7-liter Turbo Plus engine for 310 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque or the Turbo High Output version for 310 hp or 430 lb-t of torque. It’s a little strange that the High Output model doesn’t have extra horses.
Also, for some reason, the new engine doesn’t sound great. Each version of the 2.7-liter unit is coarse. It fills the cabin with a noticeable drone, especially under harder accelerations.
While the 2023 Chevy Colorado has a lot of upgrades to celebrate, such as a modern interior, advanced tech, and off-roading upgrades, it’s still a little rough around the edges. The interior is tight, the tech lacks physical controls, and the engine is wheezy.
