3 Pros and 2 Cons With the 2024 Subaru Impreza as a Daily Driver
Get a glass of milk because the new Subaru Impreza hatchback is a little spicier than expected. The RS or Rally Sport trim is back to zoom around the city with precision and confidence. But while the 2024 Subaru Impreza RS heats things up, there are also a few things you need to know.
2024 Subaru Impreza Pros and Cons
The 2024 Subaru Impreza is back in hatchback form. There’s no longer a car counterpart in the lineup, and there doesn’t need to be. The new Impreza understands its mission as an affordable, spacious, and comfortable compact option.
We spent a week in the Subaru Impreza RS, racing around Asheville, NC. The Impreza felt right at home while running errands in congested downtown areas, on the highway, and while dominating twisty mountain roads.
1. PRO: The 2024 Subaru Impreza is fun to drive
The 2024 Subaru Impreza RS is fun and engaging for a budget rally car. The steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters provide precision and control, making daily commutes and running errands more entertaining.
The available 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 182 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque makes all the difference. It helped this pint-sized hatch accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds in its Car and Driver sprint. That might not knock your socks off, but it’s plenty of power for merging into traffic and passing others.
The tires could provide more grip, but you get a good sense of the road conditions. Body motions are extremely well-controlled. The only issue is resisting playing Tokyo Drift.
2. PRO: The 2024 Impreza has more space than you think
The 2024 Subaru Impreza has a spacious interior. Those in the front can stretch out and easily find the perfect driving position. The rear is a little tight, but people around 5’1” only have an adequate amount of space. Two adults can fit in the rear.
You can access up to 20.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear and up to 56.0 cubes overall. The center console is deeper than expected, and the wireless charging pad doubles as an accessible storage tray.
The seats don’t fold completely flat but are still versatile. Plus, there are extra cupholders in the rear, and the seat pockets are generous.
3. PRO: The Impreza is so conveinent
The 2024 Subaru Impreza is so easy and relaxing at the end of the day. The wide door openings make it easy to quickly enter and exit the vehicle. Plus, it helps with installing child seats or loading bulky items.
We’re amazed by the Impreza’s 17.4-foot turning radius. You can whip this hatchback around and park it anywhere. The turning radius and responsive steering make it possible to turn around in the blink of an eye.
Standard features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist allow you to sit back without worry. While the Impreza is athletic, it’s also smooth and calm.
1. CON: The 2024 Subaru Impreza is loud
The 2024 Subaru Impreza has more than its fair share of wind and road noise at higher speeds. Once you hit about 45 mpg, the interior starts to get louder. However, you can still carry a conversation in the front.
Speaking to those in the rear will require people to raise their voices. Also, the audio system doesn’t have the best sound quality for covering the noise. Some of the panels in the interior shake if you crank up the tunes as well.
2. CON: The 2024 Impreza has adequate tech
The tech in the 2024 Subaru Impreza is alright. The digital guage cluster has analog gauges and only flashes crucial driver information such as a compass or how many miles you have until empty at the top of the screen.
Critics aren’t wrong when they mention how attractive the 11.6-inch infotainment screen is. But the graphics and backup camera resolution could be a bit better. Also, the Impreza doesn’t have a 360-degree camera.
It’s nimble with excellent visibility, so you don’t need the 360 views, but we still missed it. Most vehicles in the $30,000 price range have one. Last but not least, some people may prefer more physical controls. The Impreza is primarily controlled by the touchscreen.
