3 Pros and 3 Cons of Driving the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club Every Day
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 is arguably one of the most fun sports cars on the market. It’s small, lightweight, and has a convertible top that can open or close in seconds. During my week with it, the Mazda MX-5 never failed to put a smile on my face whenever I drove it – even if it was only for a short distance.
It only has 181 hp, but that’s enough power to get the light car moving quickly up to speed. Also, its tight suspension makes it fun to throw into corners. The MX-5 is a great car, but it’s not perfect. Here are three pros and cons to consider if you drive one daily.
Pro: The 2023 Mazda MX-5 handles well and is fun to drive
Did I say that the 2023 Mazda MX-5 was fun to drive? Aside from its power delivery and tight suspension, the Mazda MX-5 handles well on normal roads. By that, I mean that its suspension soaks up road imperfection and bumps surprisingly well. It’s not luxury-car smooth, but if you need to take a short road trip, the Mazda MX-5 won’t kill your kidneys.
Con: It’s tough to get in and out of
Although the Mazda MX-5 is fun to drive, it’s also tough to get in and out of. Fortunately, its two doors open very wide so they don’t get in the way. But having to duck under the roof and squeeze into the small cabin is a bit of a chore. Getting out of the car isn’t a very fun time either.
Pro: The Mazda MX-5 is fuel-efficient
According to the EPA, the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata can get up to 26 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. During my week with the car, which included driving in mixed highway and city scenarios, I averaged 28.8 mpg. That’s pretty good, considering I have a heavy right foot.
Con: Its cabin is a bit cramped for tall people
It should come as no surprise, but the Mazda MX-5 is not made for tall people. According to some Miata enthusiast forums, drivers up to six feet, four inches tall, should be able to fit OK with the top-up, but it’s uncomfortable.
Pro: You don’t have to take more than one passenger with you
Since the Mazda MX-5 is a two-seater, the good news is that your friends and family won’t expect you to drive them everywhere. Unless you only have one friend, then you’ll have to drive everywhere. Well, at least you don’t own a Chevy Suburban.
Con: It’s a little pricey
The base 2023 Mazda MX-5 starts at around $28,000. My MX-5 Club trim level test car had a price of $37,510 with all of the options. If you want to top trim, you could spend closer to $40,000. That’s pretty pricey for some budgets.
The 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata has some pros and cons
Although the 2023 Mazda MX-5 is a ton of fun to drive and is suitable for the daily commute, it’s not the perfect car. Keep these pros and cons in mind if you’re in the market for one.
