As the third generation of Nissan’s mid-size truck, the 2022 Frontier has revitalized this vehicle. It took Nissan nearly 20 years to give the Frontier a legitimate update, and the wait does seem to have paid off. Now the Frontier offers a standard V6 engine, has a more comfortable interior, and other aspects have been revisited as well. Because of this, the 2022 Nissan Frontier is a real winner as a pickup truck. What are the three key features that make this true?

The 2022 Frontier has a standard V6 engine

The 3.8-liter V6 engine featured in the 2022 Nissan Frontier was first introduced for the 2020 model. Back then, you could still get the Frontier with a smaller four-cylinder engine, but that is no longer the case for this mid-size truck. The engine operates fairly smoothly, and it comes paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Sadly, you can no longer buy this pickup with a manual transmission.

In terms of power output, the V6 makes 310 horsepower and 281 pound-foot of torque. This powerplant makes ample power for a vehicle of this size. And, because it is standard, you do not have to worry about paying extra for a larger engine. Although Car and Driver does note that steering feels fairly heavy, it is more refined than the previous generation.

The Third-gen Frontier has a solid interior

In the past, the Frontier has always felt like an old-school truck. And that is thanks to the fact that Nissan waited so long to make any major changes. Overall, the interior materials and design feel like a huge improvement when compared to the older Frontier. For instance, Nissan has added something that it calls Zero Gravity seats. And they give you a good seating position while driving this mid-size truck.

Other notable features include better storage which will allow you to keep your pickup organized. If you live in a place with cold weather, you are likely to appreciate the available heated steering wheel and heated front seats. Infotainment has also been updated with an available 9.0-inch touchscreen.

The 2022 Frontier PRO-4X continues to dominate

If you want a new mid-size truck, you might want a pickup capable of off-road use. That is where the Frontier PRO-4X comes in. This pickup has long been a truck that is ready to take on the road less traveled. With this package, you get things like Bilstein shocks as well as an electronically locking rear differential. Additionally, off-road tires are included.

Through some changes to the suspension and other components, the PRO-4X now feels a little bit more comfortable during on-road use. But, unless you plan to go off-roading often, you might be better off with a different trim level.

Is the 2023 Nissan Frontier for sale yet?

The 2023 Frontier has not yet been released. But, when it does come out, it should be fairly similar to the outgoing model. And that is because Nissan has just given this pickup a major update.

At some point this fall, the 2023 Nissan Frontier should be revealed.
