3 Reasons the 2022 Nissan Titan Might Have the Toyota Tundra Beat
In the world of full-size trucks, things are highly competitive. It’s unlikely you won’t meet a truck owner who does not have a strong opinion on their specific brand. Two non-domestic automakers in the truck business are Toyota and Nissan. Nissan with the 2022 Titan, and Toyota with the 2022 Tundra. And while the Tundra might be the more popular pickup, the 2022 Nissan Titan might have it beat in a few ways.
The 2022 Nissan Titan is the only full-size truck with a standard V8 engine
More and more trucks are moving away from the traditional V8 engine, and depending on your opinion, unfortunately, Toyota is one of them. You can no longer get a new Toyota Tundra with eight cylinders. Each 2022 Tundra comes equipped with a twin-turbo V6 engine that makes 389 horsepower and 479 pound-foot of torque.
If you want a truck with a standard V8 engine, look to the 2022 Nissan Titan. Every model is outfitted with a 5.6-liter V8 that produces 400 hp and 413 lb-ft of torque. It is worth noting that the Titan will get slightly worse fuel economy than the Tundra. But for some folks, that trade-off is worth making.
The Titan is old-school, in a good way
If you want an old-school full-size truck, the 2022 Nissan Titan might be the best option. While the Tundra has become more complicated with things like a coil-sprung rear suspension, the Titan remains true to its status as a truck.
That said, according to Car and Driver, the interior manages to stay quiet. And if you’re planning to do a lot of highway or city driving, that is likely a good thing. Because the Tundra is all-new for 2022, its cabin is certainly more modern. But that is not something that everyone wants from their large pickup truck.
The 2022 Titan has a best-in-class warranty
There’s no getting around it; today’s trucks are pretty pricey. The 2022 Nissan Titan has a starting price of about $40,000, which makes it more expensive than Titans of the past. To go along with that price tag, Nissan provides a comprehensive warranty, so you know the brand stands by its product.
Nissan’s warranty for the Titan pickup truck is as follows:
- Limited warranty: five years/100,00 miles
- Powertrain warranty: five years/100,000 miles
The 2022 Toyota Tundra might be the cheaper truck, but its warranty is not as good. And that might be enough to sway some consumers on which full-size pickup they go for.
Which full-size truck is best?
On paper, the 2022 Nissan Titan is not the best pickup truck. But, owner satisfaction is fairly high. So for those that the Titan fits the bill for, it is worthy of consideration.
There is something else about the Titan you should know. And that is the fact that Nissan has plans to kill off its full-size truck. So if you want a Titan, your time might be limited. Especially if you are hoping to purchase one new.
