A 2023 Ford Mustang GT has tight rear seats compared to competitors like the doomed Dodge Challenger. Of course, depending on your tastes, the biggest issue with the current GT is the upcoming next-gen Mustang. Specifically, the new Mustang promises more power and technology.
Can you use Mustang as a family car?
While the 2023 Ford Mustang is a “2+2” layout with grand tourer practicality, it’s not a viable family car. Although Ford says the Mustang seats four, the back seat is cramped, and headroom is limited.
As a result, families with teenage or adult passengers will have difficulty getting them into the back seats comfortably. The rear seats could work in a pinch and feature LATCH connectors for car seats, but overflow storage is the best use for the Mustang’s rear seats. For instance, the 2023 Ford Mustang GT Coupe has 13.5 cubic feet of trunk volume, around 2.7 less than a comparable Dodge Challenger, per TrueCar.

The 2023 Ford Mustang GT’s interior features retro-inspired elements, like a double-bubble brow dash and old-school toggle switchgear. However, for those who miss the charm of the throwback aesthetic, the S550 Mustang’s interior is simply dated.
It hasn’t experienced a substantial update since the pre-facelift model first hit the road in 2015, save for limited features like an optional digital gauge cluster in later model years. Moreover, the Mustang GT and GT Premium’s infotainment screens are smaller than the Dodge Challenger.
What is the difference between the 2023 and 2024 Mustang?
The 2024 Ford Mustang gets a complete redesign for the beginning of the S650 generation. The new Mustang’s interior gets an available 13.2-inch touchscreen center stack with Ford Sync 4 and a 12.4-inch digital gauge display. It’s a much more modern setup than the S550 Mustang. Moreover, the 2023 Ford Mustang GT has a deficit of around 30 horsepower compared to the new 2024 model.
Of course, it’s not all bad. The 2023 model wears its post-facelift looks well and won’t be accused of stealing the Chevrolet Camaro’s styling. Moreover, the GT Convertible allows fans to get a drop-top V8 Mustang without springing for the GT Premium Convertible, the only option for the 2024 model.
