The 2022 Chevy Silverado is a good truck with lots of engine options

The 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 base model comes with a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine. This makes 420 lb-ft of torque and is matched to an eight-speed automatic transmission. If you upgrade, you can get the 3.0-liter four-cylinder engine that’s capable of 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Go one higher for the 5.3-liter V8 engine that makes 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a 6.2-liter V8 that can do 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque.

The Silverado ZR2 is a capable off-roader

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado is able to handle rock crawls as well as desert driving. It comes with front and rear locking differentials, 33-inch tires, and a bumper that allows for greater clearance. It also has skid plates specifically made for the 2022 Silverado, as well as a special rear bumper.

It’s a spacious pickup truck

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 also has a spacious interior, which will be desirable for those using their truck for families. Plus, its technology is easy to use, so there isn’t a giant learning curve.

The Chevy Silverado has a dangerous passenger seat

The passenger seat of vehicles has a reputation as being the most dangerous seat, and it’s true for the 2022 Chevy Silverado. While the new Silverado has overall good crashworthiness scores, the passenger side small overlap score is only marginal.

It needs better headlights

Headlights are an often overlooked, but very important, safety feature of pickup trucks. That’s because half of all fatal crashes occur in the dark, according to the IIHS, and more than a quarter of those crashes happen on unlit roads.

Yet the 2022 Chevy Silverado doesn’t have good headlights. The IIHS tested five versions of the Silverado’s headlights and found them to be poor. Visibility on the straightaway with the Silverado was good with the low beams and good on the right side with the high beams but fair on the left side. In addition, the low beams create glare.

The Silverado isn’t exactly fuel-efficient

It’s a pickup truck, so you’re probably not too surprised that the 2022 Chevy Silverado isn’t exactly fuel-efficient. Still, it’s something worth considering when you’re looking for a new truck. Its fuel tank that can hold up to 24 mpg and it gets 16 mpg overall. That includes 10 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The Silverado 1500 can go 384 miles on a full tank of gas.

If you’re in the market for a new pickup truck, the 2022 Chevy Silverado just may be what you’re looking for. It’s important to look at what your priorities are in a new truck and see if the Silverado lines up with what you’re looking for.
