3 Reasons to Buy the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer – and 3 to Skip It
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a brand new SUV to the market that also happens to be a throwback to one of the most iconic sport utility vehicles ever. Because of the original Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s unique design, this new version of the Grand Wagoneer was highly anticipated. So has it proven to be worth all the hype? Yes and no. Here are three reasons why the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a good SUV, and three reasons why you might want to skip it.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a good SUV with a powerful engine
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has an optional powerful new 3.0-liter gas-powered Hurricane twin-turbo inline-6. It makes more than 400 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. There’s a high-output variant as well which can make more than 500 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque. It’s the first Jeep to get this new engine, which is exciting. It matches the output of the V8 yet is more fuel-efficient.
It can tow a whole lot
If you’re looking for a luxury sport utility vehicle that can also tow an awful lot, you might be happy with the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. That’s because it can tow up to 9,850 pounds. It also has ambient interior lighting, door handle approach lamps, and LED foglamps.
You can bring back that iconic woody look
If you’ve always felt that the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer was missing something, you’re not alone. Plenty of people are happy that Jeep’s famous old SUV is back, yet many lament the lack of wood paneling on the exterior.
According to Jalopnik, Texas company Wagonmaster has put out decals that mimic the old wood grain exterior of the original Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Not only does it fit on the brand new 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, it will also work on the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, as well.
The Grand Wagoneer is super expensive
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer fully loaded price “will approach $111,000,” according to Car and Driver. That said, you can get a Grand Wagoneer for under $100,000, at $88,995. Still, that’s not exactly a steal, especially when the non-luxury but similar 2022 Jeep Wagoneer price starts at just $58,995.
It’s been recalled several times
Unfortunately, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has already been recalled several times. One of the more recent of the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s recalls is the Back Over Prevention recall. This deals with the backup camera. According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer’s radio software may not allow the backup camera to display a rearview image.
The Grand Wagoneer isn’t fuel-efficient
The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer comes with a 6.4-liter V8 engine that makes 471 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. It isn’t a fuel-efficient engine. In fact, the Grand Wagoneer only gets 13 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway for a combined 15 mpg.
Overall, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is a great SUV that has a lot going for it. If you’re nostalgic for the old Jeep Grand Wagoneer but also want a sport utility vehicle with all the bells and whistles, the new Grand Wagoneer may be just the vehicle for you. Add in that wood paneling aftermarket paneling, and you just might have the perfect SUV for you.
