The Nissan Titan is a big, thirsty full-size pickup truck. Buying the 2022 Nissan Titan can be a mistake of epic proportions for some consumers. Here’s why some drivers should run and hide from the Titan.

It isn’t a great time to be a thirsty truck. Gas prices are sky high and don’t show any sign of coming back down anytime soon. When gas prices are high, full-size pickup truck owners often feel the sting the most because of their heavier vehicles. Some full-size pickup truck owners are paying anywhere from $80 to $100 to fill up some vehicles.

The Titan is among the thirstiest trucks on the market. Consumer Reports gave the pickup a 1/5 fuel economy score and a 3/10 greenhouse gas rating.

The 2022 Nissan Titan achieves 16 miles per gallon in the city and 21 miles per gallon on the highway. More popular full-size pickup truck models like the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 have better gas mileage. The 2022 Ram 1500 gets 22 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. The 2022 Ford F-150 gets 25 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway.

The Nissan Titan’s fuel economy makes it more expensive to own than many of its rivals, and its starting price doesn’t do it any favors either. The 2022 Nissan Titan starts at a whopping $36,950.

The 2022 Ram 1500 starts at $35,900 and the 2022 Ford F-150 starts at $30,495. Despite being ranked lower by most automotive publications, the Titan is significantly more expensive than many of its competitors. If the Ram 1500 is considered the best truck on the market, and the Ford F-150 is the most popular truck, why should consumers spend more money on a truck that’s not as popular?

The Nissan Titan’s price doesn’t match the value it provides. Consumer Reports gave the 2022 Nissan Titan a 2/5 predicted owner satisfaction score.

Should you buy a 2022 Nissan Titan?

Pass on the 2022 Nissan Titan if you’re looking for decent fuel economy or affordability. The F-150 makes a better work truck, and the Ram 1500 is more comfortable and refined.

Car and Driver praises the Titan’s V8 engine, cabin, and tech features, but the automotive publication claims that American alternatives offer more value.

Skip the thirsty Titan and go with another full-size pickup truck instead. If you insist on a Japanese full-size pickup, go for the 2022 Toyota Tundra. The 2022 Tundra is completely redesigned and is an all-around improvement compared to previous model years. Car and Driver gave the 2022 Tundra an 8/10 overall score.
