Once off-road, the multimode four-wheel drive system and high ground clearance make life easier. Eight trim levels ensure an option for everyone, but the TRD Off-Road trim is a good buy for those off-road-specific drive modes. Off-road cruise control and a locking rear differential also assist. For the top of the line version, the TRD Pro has the most to offer.
The special TRD features make short work of rocky trails, which makes up for its subpar fuel economy and performance. Those fuel economy numbers come in at 16 mpg on the city and 19 mpg on the highway, working out to 17 mpg combined for the 2023 Toyota 4Runner.
