If you’re in the market for a midsize sedan, then the 2022 Toyota Camry deserves a spot on your shortlist. It’s been the best-selling car in the U.S. for the past 19 consecutive years and was recently redesigned with an edgier flare. There is definitely a lot to love about the Camry including its available V6 engine, interior comfort, and a strong reputation for reliability. However, there are also a few reasons that you might not want to buy a 2022 Camry.

1. The 2022 Camry TRD only comes with an automatic transmission

If you’re looking for a sportier version of the 2022 Camry, then the TRD trim level is the one to get. It comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine stuffed under the hood, 19-inch matte black wheels, a TRD splitter, side aero kit, and wing in addition to a sport suspension. We had the chance to drive the Camry TRD and came away impressed with its sportiness, however, the only downside is that it only comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Admittedly, a six-speed manual would be much better and really wake the car up.

2. The Toyota Camry is priced a little higher than its competitors

While the Toyota Camry undoubtedly presents a great value proposition for any midsize sedan buyer, it is still priced higher than a couple of its competitors. The Camry comes in eight different trim levels and has a starting MSRP of $25,395 for the base LE model. That price jumps up to $35,820 for the top-trim XSE V6, which is the most you’ll pay for a midsize sedan in this segment.

By comparison, the 2022 Honda Accord has a price range of $26,120 to $38,000 and the Nissan Altima is priced from $24,550 to $34,250. If you’re looking for something a little more unique, then the 2022 Kia K5 commands a price range of $23,790 to $31,190, which makes it the most economical of the bunch. In that case, if you’re on a strict budget, then the Camry may not be your best choice.

3. The Camry has less cargo volume than the competition

This last one might seem arbitrary to some buyers, but if you’re shopping for a sedan, then cargo space is important. Unfortunately, the Toyota Camry’s trunk space measures 15.1 cubic feet with the rear seatback folded up. It’s actually a pretty good amount of room for a few carry-on bags or golf club sets. However, when compared to the Accord (16.7 cubic feet), Altima (15.4 cubic feet), and the K5 (16 cubic feet), the Camry’s trunk is a little smaller.

There are still plenty of reasons to buy the 2022 Toyota Camry

Despite these few drawbacks to buying the 2022 Toyota Camry, there is still a lot of to love about it. The Camry is large enough to fit up to five adult passengers comfortably, it has some unique exterior styling, and there are plenty of tech-savvy interior features including a premium JBL sound system.

If none of the aforementioned reasons are enough to deter you from purchasing a Camry, then you’re almost guaranteed to enjoy it for many years to come. Maybe even 19 years.
