Sure, the Toyota Tundra is finally brand new again. But does that mean it can tackle the GMC Sierra? Both trucks have excellent pros and cons to consider. However, the 2022 GMC Sierra has a few advantages that can’t be ignored. 

2022 GMC Sierra vs. 2022 Toyota Tundra 

We’re excited to see the 2022 Toyota Tundra flexing its new exterior design, fresh interior, and updated tech. Heck, we loved our week behind the wheel of the 1794 edition. However, it may have a few kinks to work out. 

When you compare the new Tundra to the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, there are a few reasons that make the Sierra seem a little more practical for work and daily use. Being the better work truck can make a significant difference for buyers. 

1. The GMC Sierra has better access 

The 2022 GMC Sierra has a step built into the rear bumper, and the tailgate has a nice place to grab and hold onto, making it easier to get in the bed. The foothold puts you higher up and closer to the tailgate. 

You can add a rear step to the 2022 Toyota Tundra, and it manually folds out, making it easier to climb into the bed. Higher terms offer a fold-out step. However, it puts you in a lower position than the Sierra. Also, there isn’t a place to hold on to as you climb. 

2. The Tundra doesn’t have a flat load floor 

The 2022 Toyota Tundra has a hybrid engine, which is awesome. It saves fuel and provides tons of power. However, the battery cuts into the rear a little. It prevents the load floor from being flat under the rear seats. 

This can make it more difficult to load and store items. This issue impacts both big and small trucks. For example, the Ford Maverick doesn’t have a flat floor in the rear either, making it more challenging to store camping gear. 

But the 2022 GMC Sierra has a mostly flat floor in the back. There is one small bump, but it’s smaller than the bump found in the Tundra. A flat floor prevents luggage, groceries, guns, or whatever you store from bouncing around. 

3. The Sierra has automatic ambiance 

Both the 2022 GMC Sierra and 2022 Toyota Tundra are loaded with creature comforts such as ventilated seats and dual-zone climate control. However, the Sierra automatically detects the temperature for you. 

As a result, the ventilated seats automatically turn on for you, instantly providing relief from the heat. In the Toyota Tundra, you have to turn the ventilated seats on each time, which is a only minor issue. 

According to Pickup Truck Talk, the seats are much louder in the Tundra. They create a whistling noise that can be annoying. We noticed some weird sounds with the Tundra, but never located the source. 

You may have to raise your voice a little louder to carry a conversation in the Tundra. Our 1794 Edition did have a lot of noise from the wind, road, and air conditioning, which was surprising for a luxury truck. 

These issues aren’t deal breakers, the Tundra has plenty of benefits to consider against the GMC Sierra. However, we felt like these practical differences needed to be shared.
