The Chevy Colorado and Honda Ridgeline are two mid-size trucks that are proving themselves against rivals such as the reborn Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma. They both have quality features that set them apart from the game. However, the Chevy Colorado has the edge over the Honda Ridgeline for a variety of reasons.  

The Chevy Colorado Has A Better Price 

The Honda ridgeline base model starts around $33k, which is expensive compared to its rivals. The Toyota Tacoma even starts at $26k while the Ford Ranger begins at about $24k. The highest trim option for the Honda Ridgeline raises the bar to around $43k too. 

Meanwhile, the Chevy Colorado starts around $21k, making it an excellent deal for a truck that’s more than capable for work and play. The 2019 Nissan Frontier also begins at a lower price, around $19k, but that won’t last long. The new Nissan Frontier is expected to start around $27k.

The Chevy Colorado also has a variety of trim options ranging from $25k to $43k, making it easier to get the option that best suited for your needs. There are even two different off-roading models available to choose from. 

The Chevy Colorado Has More Power 

The Honda Ridgeline only has one engine option, which is the 3.5-liver V6 engine. It provides 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque. The two-wheel-drive trims can two up to 3,500 lb, and the all-wheel-drive trims can tow up to 5,000 lb. 

This puts the Honda Ridgeline behind the competition, as the Ford Ranger can tow 7,500 lb, and the Nissan Frontier can tow up to 6,500 lb. However, the Honda Ridgeline still provides a fast and sporty driving experience with the ability to accelerate 0 to 60 in 7.1 seconds. 

The Chevy Colorado has three engine options. The 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine offers 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. You can also upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine that provides the best in class 308 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque. 

Plus, the Chevy Colorado has an optional 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, the Chevy Colorado can tow up to 7,770 lb. It can also accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds. 

The Chevy Colorado is Better For Off-Roading 

The Honda Ridgeline only has all-wheel drive. It doesn’t come with four-wheel drive, meaning it’s not as capable as competitors for off-roading. All-wheel drive is great for driving in shallow amounts of snow or mud, but you need 4X$ to get unstuck. 

Also, the Honda Ridgeline has a unibody frame. Because its frame consists of one part, it has a lower ground clearance and has less flexibility for the wheels to function correctly at different heights. 

However, the Chevy Colorado has the traditional body-on-frame build true four-wheel-drive capabilities. The front and rear electronically locking differentials, Multimatic shocks, skid plates, and rock rails help it beast off-roading trails as well.
