For the 2023 model year, the Toyota Sequoia is brand new and better than ever. However, it needs to stand up to the competition for any changes to matter. Fortunately, there are a few reasons why it is better than one of the most popular full-size SUVs on the market. Here are 3 reasons why the 2023 Toyota Sequoia is better than the Chevy Tahoe.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia is better than the Chevy Tahoe because of performance

According to The Drive, the 2023 Toyota Sequoia comes standard with a hybrid engine, and it’s more potent than the Chevy Tahoe. We’ve reached a time where hybrid and electric powertrains are just as good, if not better than gas-only options. Every 2023 Sequoia will have a 3.5-liter i-Force Max twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine, making 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque.

Comparatively, the 2022 Chevy Tahoe uses a 6.2-liter V8. Since it’s so big and powerful, you’d assume it would create more horsepower to compensate for its lack of efficiency. However, the Chevy Tahoe only makes 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, falling short of the new Sequoia. Although there isn’t a massive difference in horsepower, torque is significant.

Towing capacity: Sequoia beats the Tahoe in the full-size SUV battle

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia can tow up to 9,000 pounds in terms of towing capacity. That’s pretty impressive for a full-size SUV, especially with a standard hybrid engine. Comparatively, the 2021 Ford Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds when it’s equipped with the Heavy-Duty Trailer Towing Package. However, the Sequoia beats the Tahoe by quite a margin.

The 2021 Chevy Tahoe can only tow a maximum of 8,300 pounds. It isn’t the best option in the segment already for towing, but it just got a bit worse. The 2021 Toyota Sequoia can only tow up to 7,400 pounds, so the Tahoe had the lead. When the 2023 model rolls around, Chevy will fall behind yet another competitor in this area.

It’s likely the 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be more fuel efficient than the Chevy Tahoe

Although it’s far too early to tell, the 2023 Sequoia will likely be more fuel-efficient than the Tahoe. Considering the Chevy Tahoe uses a naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8, fuel economy isn’t a strong suit. On average, it gets 21 city and 28 highway miles per gallon. More importantly, Chevy does not offer a hybrid version of the Tahoe at all. There used to be a Chevy Tahoe hybrid long ago, but it’s since been forgotten.

Toyota did not reveal its estimated mpg for the 2023 Toyota Sequoia. However, the new Toyota Tundra Hybrid will likely share numbers with the new Sequoia. The two models share so much, including a platform. Unfortunately, an estimated mpg isn’t available for the Tundra Hybrid either. The 2022 Toyota Tundra gets 18 city and 24 highway mpg, and it’s safe to assume both the pickup truck and new SUV will get a far better EPA-estimated fuel economy than that.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia is better than the Chevy Tahoe

In conclusion, there’s plenty to look forward to with the 2023 Toyota Sequoia. It’s brand new and shares a lot with the Toyota Tundra. One of the best things about it is its standard hybrid engine. Because of the engine, it performs better and tows more weight than the Chevy Tahoe. Finally, even without concrete numbers, it is very likely the hybrid engine will enable the Sequoia to produce better fuel economy numbers than its rival. Those are 3 reasons the 2023 Toyota Sequoia is better than the Chevy Tahoe.
