The truck wars rage on as the Ram 1500 tries to overthrow the Ford F-150. While the 2022 Ford F-150 excels as the most popular truck, you might need to slow your roll. There are a few excellent reasons to consider the 2022 Ram 1500 instead. 

2022 Ram 1500 vs. 2022 Ford F-150 

Both the 2022 Ram 1500 and the 2022 Ford F-150 are excellent trucks to consider. However, critics rank the Ram 1500 above the F-150, while more people buy the F-150 instead of the Ram 1500. 

You can get started in the Ram 1500 for about $36,500, and the Ford F-150 has an MSRP of $30,870. But the standard Ram 1500 model may provide more value than the basic F-150.

1. The Ram 1500 is more comfortable 

The 2022 Ram 1500 features a premium cabin with high-quality materials and plenty of space. It offers the most passenger space in the segment with extra cargo solutions, including a massive center console. 

It provides a smooth ride over the pavement with a quiet interior unless you want to hear the V8 roar. The seats are well-padded for hours of comfort during trips, and the climate control system is strong and responsive. 

The 2022 Ford F-150 is also comfortable, but the seats could be more supportive. The heating and ventilation are nice, but you can feel the massage rollers when they aren’t being used. 

According to Edmunds, it has a smooth ride but isn’t as smooth as the Ram 1500. It has a pretty quiet interior, but wind and road noise are noticeable at higher speeds. 

2. The EcoDiesel engine can’t be ignored 

The 2022 Ram 1500 is available with the turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 EcoDiesel engine. It features 260 hp and best-in-class 480 lb-ft of torque. The 2022 Ford F-150 can’t exactly compete in this segment because it doesn’t offer a diesel option. 

With the EcoDiesel engine, you get an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and up to 33 mpg on the highway. When properly equipped, the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel can tow up to 12,560 lbs. 

Critics share that the diesel option is an affordable upgrade that delivers a satisfying amount of power, a smooth acceleration, a quiet performance, and could save hundreds of dollars in fuel costs. 

3. Ram is more reliable than Ford 

According to Consumer Reports, the 2022 Ford F-150 has a below-average reliability rating, while the 2022 Ram 1500 has a reliable rating. The predicted reliability rankings are based on problems that owners report on previous model years. 

So, the F-150 could have a few more headaches than the Ram 1500. Plus, with the proper care and maintenance, the F-150 can reach 200,000 miles while the Ram 1500 can reach 250,000 miles. 

The Ram truck could provide a few more years of service than the F-150. Plus, the annual maintenance cost for the F-150 is about $788, while the Ram 1500 rings in at $691 per year. 

Basically, the Ram 1500 is more comfortable, has an excellent diesel engine, and could last longer. Maybe it deserves another chance.
