If you’re looking for a lightly used pickup, you might want to consider shopping for 2019 models. As you do your research, you’ll see that the 2019 Ford-150  and the 2019 Ram 1500 are among the top of many lists. While both pickups are enticing, there are a few reasons why you might want to get the F-150 over the Ram 1500.

The 2019 F-150 offers more power than the Ram 1500

Ford’s F-150 has mass appeal because of its array of engine options. The F-150 features six different powerplants, while the Ram 1500 offers two. The available 1500 engines range from 240-395 horsepower. The 1500 earns praise for its refinement, but the F-150 shines for its variety. 

Base F-150 models come with a 3.3-liter V6 that produces 290-hp and 265 pound-feet of torque. This V6 is linked to a six-speed automatic. As U.S. News highlights, the other five engine options increase towing capabilities and torque. Here’s what you have to choose from on the 2019 model:

• 325-hp, 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 400 pound-feet of torque 
• 395-hp, 5.0-liter turbocharged V8 with 400 pound-feet of torque 
• 250-hp, 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 and 440 pound-feet of torque 
• 375-hp, 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 with 470 pound-feet of torque 
• 450-hp, 3.5-liter high-output twin-turbocharged V6 with 510 pound-feet of torque 

As you can tell, the F-150 offers something for just about every driver. If fuel efficiency is among your top priorities, then you’ll want to consider the turbodiesel V6. For max towing, you’ll want to shop for trims with the 3.5-liter turbo-V6 engines. All of the available engines but the base option come with a 10-speed automatic. 

The F-150 is the more capable off-roader

In addition to its exceptional towing and hauling capability, U.S. News also notes that the F-150 outshines the Ram 1500 when it comes to off-roading.U.S. News recommends looking for F-150 models that have an off-road-tuned suspension, a locking differential, and hill descent control for moderate off-roading.  

Extreme off-road enthusiasts will want the F-150 Raptor variant; the 1500 doesn’t have a comparable option. The top-tier F-150 Raptor trim comes with the beastly twin-turbocharged V6. 

It also adds beadlock wheels that allow you to drive with lower air pressure in rougher terrain conditions. Other Raptor features include a Trail Control system, which serves as cruise control for off-roading. Additionally, the Raptor has customizable drive modes that can tackle just about anything. 

The F-150 has fewer recall issues

So, Consumer Reports gave both the 2019 F-150 and the 2019 Ram 1500 poor scores for predicted reliability. CR’s low ratings for these trucks have to do with a long history of recalls for each model throughout the years. However, the F-150 has an advantage in this department too. 

At the time of this writing, there are five NHTSA safety recalls on the 2019 F-150. On the other hand, the 2019 Ram 1500 has 20 recall actions. The excessive recalls on the Ram indicate that there are more potential trouble spots on the model.
