There are many family-friendly SUVs out there, but very few are skillful enough to handle adventures. Fortunately, though, we have the 2020 Jeep Cherokee and the 2020 Subaru Forester to fill the void. Both models have their strong suits, but there are a few reasons why you might want to pick the Cherokee over the Forester.

The Jeep Cherokee is more capable 

Subaru’s Forester is a relaxed ride that can still go off-road. That said, the Cherokee is the better choice if you want an enjoyable daily driver that’s also extremely capable. The Cherokee is the best off-roader in the compact SUV class. 

Those who want to unleash the Cherokee’s full off-roading potential will be most interested in the Trailhawk trim. However, you don’t necessarily have to go up to the Trailhawk version to hit the trails. Even the lower-level trims are rugged enough for off-road adventures.

Furthermore, the Cherokee offers a range of engines, while the Forester has only powertrain. The Cherokee comes with a 180-horsepower 2.4 four-cylinder engine, but it’s not the most enthusiastic option on the SUV. For more speed, you’ll want to consider the two other available options. 

The optional 270-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder is more satisfying to drive than the Cherokee’s base engine. And for the max towing capacity on this Jeep, go with the 271-hp 3.2-liter V6. No matter which engine you choose, you’ll find that the Cherokee rides well on paved roads or rocky terrain.

It’s comfortable and durable on the inside 

The Forester and the Cherokee are both handsome on the inside. However, the Cherokee’s cabin earns praise for blending both simplicity and refinement. The Cherokee has a cozy feel and gets more luxurious as you ascend trim levels. 

Critics also recognize the Cherokee for its supportive seats. Cloth upholstery comes standard on the Cherokee with upgraded cloth, vinyl, and leather upholstery available as options. Other amenities include a heated steering wheel and heated and ventilated front seats. The only considerable downside to this Jeep’s interior is that its cargo space is below average.

The Cherokee offers easy-to-use tech

Another reason to go with the Cherokee is for its standard suite of desirable infotainment features. Jeep’s award-winning Uconnect infotainment system helps drivers feel more connected on the road. Plus, the Uconnect system is so user friendly that technology enthusiasts and technophobes alike will be able to enjoy it. 

For 2020, the Cherokee comes standard with a 7-inch touchscreen, a six-speaker stereo, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can also upgrade this infotainment system for an 8.4-inch touch display and navigation. A larger nine-speaker stereo is available too. 

In regards to advanced safety, the Cherokee comes with a backup camera and rear parking sensors. For more equipment, you opt for available functions, including forward-collision warning and lane departure warning. As you can tell, the Cherokee’s focus on tech and performance helps it stand out in a crowd of SUVs.
