The 2023 Infiniti Q50 is based on a sports sedan formula in the making for at least 10 years. In competition with traditional rivals like BMW and Mercedes-Benz and newcomers like Genesis and Kia, Infiniti wears dramatic styling. Yet, the gorgeous-but-aged Q50 may be falling in the ranks as the best business-class sedan with performance credentials.

With a wealth of standard features, a comfy cockpit, and an impressive engine, the 2023 Infiniti Q50 appears compelling. U.S. News highlights the high points of the luxury sports sedan.

Reason #1: Muscular twin-turbo V6 engines

Infiniti dropped the turbo-four powerplant three years ago. Therefore, drivers get one of the best base engines available in a sedan: a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. The 300-horsepower variant will hit 60 mph from a standstill in just over five seconds. A paddle-shifted seven-speed automatic and rear-wheel drive make for an engaging performance-minded sedan. All-wheel drive is also available for even more grip on the road.

The spicer, 400-horsepower Q50 Red Sport drops the 0-60 time by a full second. Plenty of low-end torque makes either configuration excellent for wheel-spinning starts or passing on the highway. Fortunately, the speed and power don’t sacrifice too much in fuel economy.

Reason #2: Comfy front seats

Since the 2023 Infiniti Q50 is a luxury car, it’s expected to prioritize comfort. Leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel are welcome and reassuring standard features. Potential buyers can even upgrade to include semi-aniline leather upholstery.

The Q50’s front seats are cushioned well and provide support when hitting the limit with its impressive powertrain. Ample headroom and legroom mean taller drivers and passengers can anticipate sitting comfortably.

Reason #3: Many standard features

The 2023 Infiniti Q50 features 15 total inches of infotainment screen enjoyment. An eight-inch top display handles media through Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and navigation functions. A seven-inch lower display accommodates additional audio controls, HVAC, and other vehicle settings. Base LUXE Q50s get an impressive 16-speaker audio system, high-definition and satellite radio, as well as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Infiniti also packs the Q50 full of standard safety features. They include adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Also, lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera system, and parking sensors all around.

Is the 2023 Infiniti Q50 a good luxury car?

While Infiniti is a luxury brand, the maturing Q50 is desperate for a redesign. While its aggressive sporty exterior is popular, opening the doors will reveal decade-old characteristics. The infotainment system is not user-friendly with its dual-screen layout. Moreover, the Q50’s suspension is set up more for old-school sprint pursuits rather than everyday comfort. Despite good seat bolstering, backroad barnstorming filled with hard cornering may also expose a slightly antiquated suspension design.

With starting MSRP well into the $40,000 range, there isn’t enough refinement as one would expect out of the luxury sedan. The Infiniti Q50 may have topped the charts a decade ago, but a lack of forward progression works to its deficit.
