When it comes to Honda vehicles, the best-selling model is the Honda CR-V, hands down. With impressive exterior styling and a variety of powertrain options, it’s outselling not only other Honda cars but also many of its rivals. How popular is it really, and what are three reasons why consumers are buying it?

Do people want to buy a Honda CR-V?

It appears that people do want to buy a Honda CR-V because it’s the third-best-selling vehicle as far as year-to-date (YTD) sales are concerned. For the past year, the CR-V has sold a total of 196,794 units. That’s 42.9% more than the same period last year, which saw 138,401 units sold.

When you break down the sales, 96,456 units sold for the second quarter alone. For the same period in 2022, the CR-V only saw 58,023 units sold. That’s an increase of about 38,000 in sales for this year, according to GoodCarBadCar

Looking at July’s figures alone, the 2024 Honda CR-V sold 33,097 units. Because of that, it outsold many of Toyota’s vehicles like the Camry (25,110), Tacoma (20,126), and the Highlander (8,590). In 2022, the Honda only sold 21,799 units, which is about 11,000 less than this year.

What makes the CR-V so appealing?

1. People buy a Honda CR-V because of its fuel economy

For the 2WD versions, the Honda CR-V gets 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway for half of the models. The Sport Hybrid, the Sport-L Hybrid, and the Sport Touring Hybrid offer 43 mpg when traveling on city roads and 36 mpg on the highway. Compare that to the Hyundai Tucson, which only gets 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg when on the highway.

For the AWD versions, you get 27 mpg in the city and 32 mpg when traveling on the highway. For the Sport trim levels, you get 40 mpg on city roads and 34 mpg on the highway.

2. The cargo space is another appealing reason

When it comes to interior space, the cargo area of the 2024 Honda CR-V offers quite a bit. When you have the rear seats up, you can get 39.3 cubic feet of storage; when you fold them down, you get 76.5 cubic feet of total space.

Having such a large space for cargo doesn’t interfere with the passenger space in the front and back seats. For the driver and front passenger, you still get 40 inches of headroom and 41.3 inches of legroom. For the rear passengers, you still get 38.2 inches of headroom and 41 inches of legroom, according to Honda

3. The interior quality is a selling point to buy a Honda CR-V

Honda offers a minimalist design compared to some of its rival models, but it doesn’t sacrifice the quality of the interior. The brand gives you body-stabilizing seats in the front, leather-trimmed seating with racing stripe stitching, and an available premium Bose sound system.

As for the infotainment system, you get a 7.0-inch touchscreen standard, but there’s a 9.0-inch display available to upgrade to. With the system, you get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless compatibility. Other tech features include a wireless phone charger and USB ports for both the front and rear seats.

All in all, consumers are right. The 2024 Honda CR-V is worth paying the $29,500 to $39,500 starting price. You get many features as well as good fuel economy, cargo space, and premium interior quality. While it’s the third best-selling vehicle currently, it’s bridging the gap with the Toyota RAV4, which is only about 4,000 sales ahead. Could the CR-V surpass it for second place by the end of the year? It wouldn’t surprise us.
