3 Reasons Why the Tesla Cybertruck Might Be Delayed Again
What is going on with the Cybertruck? At this point, it’s beginning to feel like we are getting punked. The Cybertruck debuted in 2019. Cybertruck Production didn’t start until 2023. Now, it’s been months since production started, and Tesla hasn’t delivered a single model nor even released the full specs. We can’t say for sure what will happen, but we can say the Cybertruck’s trajectory hasn’t been typical. Here are three reasons why the Tesla Cybertruck might get delayed for what feels like the four millionth time.
Is the Tesla Cybertruck delayed again?
The Cybertruck isn’t delayed yet, but it’s not looking good. Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that he hopes to deliver the first Cybertrucks to customers in late September. It’s true that while the time leading up to production for the Cybertruck has been messy since production began, sightings of the futuristic truck have increased.
However, in what I am sure will be the great shock of the decade, Elon Musk has been making investors and industry analysts nervous lately because he is stirring the pot. As Musk continues to make demands about the Cybertruck’s appearance here in the fourth quarter, the fussy “Techno King” also hasn’t set a date for the Cybertruck’s release party. Business Insider tried to dig a little deeper into the state of the Cybertruck, and in what will be the second great shock of the decade, Tesla didn’t respond.
1) Elon Musk is calling audibles at the last second
The first and probably biggest threat to the Cybertruck’s delivery happening this month is a leaked internal email from last month. In the email, Musk told Tesla employees that the Cybertruck needs to be “designed and built to sub 10 micron accuracy.” According to various manufacturing experts, a demand like this, which would require imperfections in the Cybertruck body pannel fitment to be imperceptible to the naked eye, is basically impossible at this stage of production.
“Getting perfection that close to micron errors has to be designed in at the beginning,” said Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions. “It’s a much more dynamic piece of the puzzle than just telling the people putting it together, ‘You got to be good about putting it together.'”
Elon Musk has undoubtedly seen the many articles, Tweets, and various other forms of posts critiquing the panel gaps hinted at in some of the photos.
2) What do we actually know about the Cybertruck?
We still don’t know much about the Cybertruck. When was the last time you could recall a new car, in theory, weeks away from delivery, in which no one really knows much about the vehicle?
Insider says that many order holders have growing concerns that Tesla still hasn’t told them much about the truck they bought, or rather will buy, because Tesla still hasn’t told order holders how much the dang thing costs. This is particularly insane, considering truck buyers shop a lot harder than most other shoppers in other segments. Specs, price, size, and capability are the things truck buyers need to know. Tesla is entering the truck world without giving its customers any way to understand what they are getting and how much it might cost.
3) When’s the Cybertruck launch party?
As we mentioned earlier, Tesla still hasn’t set the date for the launch party. This, even more than the others, isn’t exactly a smoking gun, but it does add to the larger tableau that suggests Tesla hasn’t got its house in order.
So far, all Tesla buyers have as of late last month is that Tesla said customers could buy invitations to a Cybertruck delivery event using 30,000 referral credits, which owners collect through buying Teslas. This is a sign the party is drawing nearer. However, a date has yet to be set.
Musk previously said the launch party would happen toward the end of the third quarter, which ends in September. So, there is technically still time for the so-called Techno King to get his party together by that time.
