The Chevrolet Malibu sits in a crowded segment of sleek, innovative midsize sedans. Manufacturers are packing their four-door offerings with state-of-the-art entertainment tech, advanced safety features, and hybrid drivetrains to meet consumer demand. Although the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu is slated for discontinuation soon, its low cost of ownership, handsome looks, and roominess are desirable qualities for potential buyers.

Despite some downsides, the Malibu is a very practical car. According to U.S. News, there are three particular things they like about the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu.

Reason #1: Good fuel economy

Chevrolet discontinued the base Malibu’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder. However, the remaining engine isn’t a muscular V6. Instead, the four-door is stocked with an uber-efficient 160-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. Paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, it provides exceptional value at the pump. The EPA rates the Malibu at 27 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway.

Reason #2: Spacious cabin

While Malibu’s cabin may show its age, it’s built with good-quality materials and features generous passenger space. The four-door will seat five, and it does offer more room than other competitors, despite some drawbacks. The 2023 Chevrolet Malibu also features 15.7 cubic feet of cargo space. The figure isn’t dazzling, but it’s on par with the segment and plenty for a weekend trip away.

Reason #3: Low starting price

With a starting MSRP of $26,095, the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu LS is low to average for the segment. Yet, the upper trim levels are where the most savings are seen. Above the base LS, the Malibu RS begins at $27,095, and the LT is $29,195 per Chevrolet. Malibu LTs have optional appearance packages for $895 and $1,195, respectively. Yet, any trim level can have the $545 Driver Confidence package Potential buyers will gain lane change alert with side blind zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear park assist. The top-of-the-line 2LT has an MSRP of $32,595. One further option for the 2LT is Chevrolet’s Driver Confidence and Cruise package. For $1,000, adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist, and enhanced automatic emergency braking are included.

How is the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu different from the 2022 model year?

For this year, along with the 2.0-liter engine, Chevrolet dropped the Malibu’s Premier trim. Luckily, the range-topping configuration is available as the 2LT. The trim level has the same infotainment system but gains a nine-speaker Bose system over the standard six-spear stereo. Moreover, wireless charging, an additional USB port, and a sunroof are additions over the mid-level RS and LT sedans.

A slew of standard safety features blessed the 2023 Chevrolet Malibu, too. A “Buckle to Drive” feature will disable shifting from Park for 20 seconds if the driver’s seat belt isn’t fastened. Automatic high-beam headlights, automatic high-beam headlights, forward automatic emergency braking with collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, and a rearview camera come standard. Moreover, the Malibu includes a teen driver function that allows vehicle owners to preset speed and audio volume limits for secondary drivers.
